Role Overview


The Territory Sales Manager / Team Leader is responsible for driving business growth in the assigned territory by onboarding merchants, increasing product penetration, managing field executives, and ensuring strong customer and merchant relationships. The role requires a mix of team handling, sales planning, on-ground execution, and performance monitoring to deliver revenue and activation targets across Paytm’s fintech products.


  • Key Responsibilities1.


Sales & Business DevelopmentIdentify and onboard merchants for Paytm EDC/POS, Payment Gateway, and other financial products.

  • Achieve monthly sales, revenue, and activation targets for the assigned territory.
  • Expand product penetration by pitching Paytm’s full suite of solutions to existing merchants.
  • Conduct regular market visits to understand trends, competitor activity, and business opportunities.


  • 2. Team Management (For TL/TSM Handling a Team)Manage, guide, and motivate a team of Field Sales Executives (FSEs/DSAs).
  • Plan daily/weekly targets and ensure team productivity through effective monitoring.
  • Conduct training, coaching sessions, and performance reviews for the team.
  • Ensure compliance and discipline across the field team.


  • 3. Relationship Managemen


Maintain strong relationships with merchants and trade partners in the territory.

  • Resolve merchant issues related to onboarding, activation, settlement, or hardware support.
  • Act as a local brand representative ensuring excellent merchant satisfaction.
  • 4. Operational ExcellenceEnsure timely installation, activation, and service of Paytm devices/solutions.
  • Track and monitor daily reports, lead funnels, activations, and payment performance.
  • Coordinate with internal departments (Ops, KYC, Customer Support, Logistics).
  • Ensure audit compliance (KYC, device hygiene, documentation accuracy).
  • 5. Market IntelligenceGather feedback on product performance, pricing, and competitor strategies.
  • Suggest improvements to enhance Paytm’s value proposition in the territory.
  • Required Skills & CompetenciesStrong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in field sales, merchant acquisition, or channel sales.
  • Ability to manage a target-driven and high-performance environment.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to work with MIS/data tools.
  • Problem-solving ability and customer-centric approach.
  • Leadership skills (for TL/TSM role with team responsibility).
  • Eligibility & Qualifications: Graduate in any discipline (MBA preferred).


  • Experience:


  • TSM: 2–5 years of field sales/merchant acquisition experience.
  • TL (with team): 3–7 years of sales experience with at least 1 year of team management.
  • Experience in fintech, payments, banking, or FMCG preferred.
  • Must have a smartphone and two-wheeler with a valid driving license.
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Merchant acquisition numbers
  • Device installations & activations (QR, Soundbox, POS)
  • Revenue generation per merchant
  • Team productivity (for TL/TSM with team)
