VMC Machine Operator

Position Summary

The VMC Programmer/Operator is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating Vertical Machining Centers (VMC) to manufacture precision components. The role requires strong knowledge of G/M codes, tooling, machining strategies, and ability to read engineering drawings to ensure accurate and efficient production.

Key Responsibilities

1. CNC Programming

Create and edit VMC programs using CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM, etc.).

Generate efficient toolpaths for milling, drilling, tapping, pocketing, contouring, and other operations.

Optimize feeds, speeds, and cutting strategies to improve cycle time and tool life.

Modify programs at the machine control (Fanuc/Haas/Siemens) when needed.

2. Machine Setup

Set up VMC machines with appropriate tools, fixtures, and workholding.

Perform tool offset, work offset (G54–G59), and tool length measurement.

Verify setup sheets, tooling lists, and work instructions.

Conduct first-piece inspection before running production.

3. Machine Operation

Operate VMC machines safely and efficiently.

Continuously monitor machining operations to ensure parts meet dimensional accuracy.

Adjust tool offsets and machining parameters as required.

Maintain consistent production quality and output.

4. Quality Inspection

Read and interpret engineering drawings, 2D/3D CAD models, and GD&T symbols.
