Maintenance Technician

Job role involves cleaning, monitoring, and caring for aquariums and the aquatic life within them. The job requires tasks like testing water quality, cleaning tanks, performing filter and equipment maintenance, feeding animals, and ensuring the well-being of fish and other marine life. These roles can be found in private homes, public aquariums, and research facilities. 

Key responsibilities

• Water quality: Monitor and test water parameters like temperature and chemical levels to ensure they are suitable for the animals.
• Cleaning: Clean tanks, remove algae, and maintain the cleanliness of the aquarium environment.
• Equipment maintenance: Inspect, service, and repair life support machinery such as filters, pumps, and heaters.
• Animal care: Prepare and distribute food, administer medications or vitamins, and monitor the health and behavior of the aquatic animals.
• Habitat management: Build or design displays to replicate natural habitats and assist with animal relocation or breeding programs.
• Record keeping: Keep detailed logs of water quality, animal health, and maintenance activities.
• Public engagement: In some roles, especially in public aquariums, this can include delivering presentations to patrons or assisting with research.
