Job Description
- š„ Job Responsibilities of a Hospital Housekeeper1. Cleaning & Sanitization Clean and disinfect patient rooms, wards, ICUs, OPDs, and corridors as per schedule.
- Sanitize frequently touched surfaces (bed rails, door handles, switches, etc.) regularly.
- Maintain cleanliness of floors using approved hospital-grade disinfectants.
- Remove waste (general, biomedical, and hazardous) as per hospital waste management rules.
- 2. Washroom & Utility Area Maintenance Clean and sanitize toilets, sinks, and utility areas multiple times per shift.
- Refill soap dispensers, paper towels, and other consumables.
- Use color-coded mops and buckets to prevent cross-contamination.
- 3. Biomedical Waste Management Segregate waste strictly as per color-coded bins (Red, Yellow, Blue, Black).
- Handle sharps and infectious waste safely with gloves and protective gear.
- Transfer waste only to designated collection points as instructed by the Nursing or Infection Control Department.
- 4. Patient Area Upkeep Ensure beds, side tables, and surroundings are clean and well-arranged.
- Change bed linen and curtains as per schedule or when soiled.
- Support nursing staff in maintaining hygiene and comfort of patients.
- Avoid unnecessary conversation or disturbance to patients.
- 5. Pantry / Service Support (if assigned)Distribute drinking water and meals as per diet schedules.
- Maintain hygiene while handling utensils or food items.
- Clean and disinfect pantry and service trolleys after each use.
- 6. Safety & ReportingReport immediately any spillage, breakage, or maintenance issue (plumbing, electrical, etc.) to the Supervisor.
- Follow hospital infection control, PPE, and safety protocols at all times.
- Record cleaning activities in checklists or duty registers.
- 7. Grooming & Conduct Wear clean uniform, gloves, mask, cap, and shoes during duty.
- Maintain personal hygiene and courteous behavior with patients, attendants, and staff.
- Be punctual, disciplined, and follow supervisor/nursing in-charge instructions.
