Portfolio Deep Dive & Uber Values Alignment
This round focuses on understanding the candidate's design process, problem-solving skills, and how their past experiences align with Uber's core values. The interviewer will assess the candidate's ability to articulate their design decisions and their understanding of user-centered design principles.
Walk me through a project in your portfolio where you had to make a difficult trade-off between user needs and business goals. How did you approach this?
Tell me about a time you had to advocate for a user-centered design approach when stakeholders had different priorities.
Uber values 'Trip Obsession'. Describe a situation where you went above and beyond to understand and solve a user's problem.
All interviews are private and won't be shared with the recruiters.
App Critique & Product Thinking
This round assesses the candidate's product sense, analytical skills, and ability to identify and articulate design improvements for an existing product. The candidate will be asked to critique a specific feature or flow within the Uber app or a competitor's app.
Choose a feature in the Uber app (e.g., the ride request flow, the Uber Eats ordering process) and critique it from a user experience perspective. What works well? What could be improved? How would you measure the success of your proposed changes?
Imagine Uber is launching a new service for pet owners. What are some key UX considerations for designing this experience? How would you ensure the safety and comfort of both the pet and the owner?
How would you approach designing a feature that encourages users to choose more sustainable transportation options (e.g., Uber Green, public transit)?
All interviews are private and won't be shared with the recruiters.
Design Exercise: Uber for...
This round assesses the candidate's ability to apply their design skills to a novel problem within the Uber ecosystem. The candidate will be given a design prompt and asked to brainstorm solutions, sketch wireframes, and articulate their design rationale.
Let's imagine Uber is expanding its services to offer 'Uber for Groceries'. Design a mobile experience that allows users to easily order groceries for delivery. Focus on the key user flows, such as browsing, selecting items, and checking out.
How would you design a feature that allows Uber drivers to easily manage their earnings and track their performance? Consider the different needs and priorities of drivers in different regions.
Design a feature that helps Uber riders discover and book local experiences (e.g., concerts, sporting events, tours). How would you integrate this feature into the existing Uber app?
All interviews are private and won't be shared with the recruiters.
