Job Description – Senior HVAC Design Engineer

Position: Senior HVAC Design Engineer

Department: MEPF / Engineering

Reports To: MEPF Head / Director – Engineering

Role Overview

The Senior HVAC Design Engineer will be responsible for independently handling complete HVAC system design for large-scale commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional projects. The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership in design coordination, and the ability to guide junior engineers. The candidate should be capable of managing end-to-end design deliverables and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Advanced HVAC System Design

• Conduct complete heat load analysis, ESP calculations, duct & pipe sizing, equipment selection, and system configuration.
• Design chilled water systems, VRV/VRF systems, ventilation systems, clean-room HVAC, and specialised industrial HVAC solutions.
• Prepare and review DBR (Design Basis Report) and ensure all design assumptions meet code requirements.

2. Design Verification & Quality Control

• Review and verify HVAC drawings, BOQ, material specifications, and calculation sheets prepared by junior team members.
• Ensure 100% coordination with electrical, plumbing, firefighting, IBMS, and architectural teams.
• Implement value engineering solutions without compromising performance.

3. Drawings & Documentation

• Prepare and check HVAC shop drawings, tender drawings, IFC drawings, and as-built drawings.
• Review and finalize technical submittals, vendor selections, and equipment specifications.
• Ensure documents meet ASHRAE, ISHRAE, SMACNA, NBC, and local statutory norms.

4. Project Involvement

• Attend client, consultant, and coordination meetings and represent the HVAC discipline.
• Provide solutions for site queries, RFI responses, and construction issues.
• Support project managers in planning and execution stages from design to commissioning.

5. Tools & Software Expertise

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, HAP/TRACE, Revit MEP (preferred), and MS Office.
• Ability to interpret BIM models and coordinate services.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred) or Diploma with extensive experience.
• 3 to 12 years of dedicated experience in HVAC design for commercial, industrial, or high-rise projects.
• Strong understanding of HVAC codes, green building concepts, and energy-efficient solutions.
• Experience working with consultants or MEPF service companies is preferred.
