Commissioning Manager – Project

Job Summary

The HVAC Commissioning Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and executing the commissioning of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to ensure they meet design specifications, performance expectations, and operational standards. This role involves supervising testing, troubleshooting, and validation processes while collaborating with project stakeholders to deliver high-quality systems on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

Commissioning Planning:

  • Develop commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules for HVAC systems.
  • Define performance criteria and test protocols to evaluate system functionality.

System Testing & Validation:

  • Lead the process of testing, balancing, and validating HVAC systems, including chillers, air handling units, ductwork, and controls.
  • Ensure proper integration and operation of HVAC systems with building automation systems (BAS).

Project Coordination:

  • Coordinate with project teams, contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure smooth execution of commissioning activities.
  • Monitor project progress and identify risks or challenges impacting commissioning timelines.

Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution:

  • Diagnose and resolve issues observed during commissioning, including performance deficiencies and equipment malfunctions.
  • Provide technical guidance to contractors and technicians during system testing.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain detailed commissioning documentation, including test results, system performance reports, and punch lists.
  • Submit final reports to clients, ensuring all systems meet required standards and specifications.

Compliance & Quality Assurance:

  • Verify that HVAC systems adhere to environmental regulations, safety standards, and design specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, and other applicable guidelines.

Handover & Training:

  • Provide training to building operators and maintenance staff on HVAC system operation and upkeep.
  • Ensure a smooth handover process, including the delivery of operational manuals and documentation.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to enhance commissioning processes and improve system performance.
  • Stay updated on industry innovations, standards, and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience:

    • 5+ years of HVAC commissioning experience, with a focus on commercial or industrial projects.
    • Proven expertise in system testing, balancing, and troubleshooting HVAC systems.
  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, air handling units, ductwork, and controls.
    • Understanding of building automation systems (BAS) and HVAC integration.
    • Exceptional organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
    • Proficiency in HVAC commissioning tools and software (e.g., Air Balance Tools, BAS platforms).
