Job Description

Deputy General Manager - Indirect Tax

Responsibilities

1. Compliance and Reporting

Ensure timely and accurate filing of GST, VAT, Excise, and Customs returns across all business units.

Conduct reconciliations for Input Tax Credit (ITC) and address discrepancies proactively.

Review compliance documentation, audit reports, and ensure regulatory adherence.

Monitor refund processes to optimize cash flow and address pending claims.

Assist in implementing tax reporting tools and technologies.

 

2. Advisory and Tax Structuring

Provide advisory support for business transactions, ensuring tax-efficient outcomes.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address indirect tax implications for projects and M&A.

Assist in structuring tax solutions for contracts, bids, and tenders.

Perform due diligence to identify tax exposures and provide mitigation strategies.

Support the Head in implementing group-wide tax structuring initiatives.

 

3. Litigation Management and Control

Draft comprehensive replies to audit notices, show-cause notices, and government inquiries.

Represent the organization during tax audits, assessments, and disputes.

Collaborate with external consultants to manage litigation proceedings effectively.

Track ongoing litigations, ensuring timely submissions and follow-ups.

Prepare periodic litigation updates for leadership and internal stakeholders.

 

4. Governance and Process Improvements

Implement governance frameworks to ensure uniform tax compliance practices across business units.

Identify process gaps in compliance and reporting workflows and drive improvements.

Support automation initiatives to optimize reporting accuracy and efficiency.

Monitor the implementation of ITC utilization strategies.

Regularly audit tax compliance processes to identify deviations and corrective actions.

 

5. Knowledge Development and Collaboration

Conduct training sessions and workshops to educate internal teams on tax changes and compliance requirements.

Circulate regular updates on changes in indirect tax laws, amendments, and best practices.

Collaborate with business units and consultants to resolve tax queries.

Support team development by sharing knowledge and fostering cross-functional engagement.

Prepare dashboards and reports for key stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education Qualification:

Bachelor's Degree in Finance

Chartered Accountant
