Tunnel Design Head

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the entire design process for tunnelling projects, ensuring designs meet client specifications, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.
• Utilize advanced design tools and software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bentley Systems (MicroStation, STAAD.Pro), and specialized tunnelling design applications to develop and validate designs.
• Monitor and enforce quality control measures throughout the design lifecycle, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with engineering standards.
• Collaborate with geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and construction teams to integrate multi-disciplinary inputs into cohesive tunnel designs. 
• Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to identify potential design challenges and propose effective mitigation strategies. 
• Drive innovation by introducing state-of-the-art tunnelling techniques and sustainable design practices that align with Adani’s commitment to environmental stewardship. 
• Mentor and guide a team of design engineers and drafters, fostering a collaborative environment focused on continuous learning and professional growth. 
• Lead design review meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders, addressing feedback promptly and ensuring alignment with project goals.
• Develop and implement design standards, procedures, and best practices tailored to tunnelling projects, maintaining consistency across all projects. 
• Ensure timely delivery of design packages and documentation, maintaining rigorous version control and traceability. 
• Coordinate with procurement and construction teams to ensure design feasibility and smooth transition from design to execution phases.
• Monitor project budgets and resources related to the design function, optimizing efficiency without compromising quality. 
• Ensure compliance with all relevant local, national, and international codes and standards applicable to tunnelling and underground construction. 
• Champion safety in design by identifying hazards early and incorporating safety features into designs to minimize risks during construction and operation.
• Act as a technical advisor for complex tunnelling issues, providing expert guidance and solutions to resolve design or construction challenges.
• Foster a culture of inclusion, respect, and integrity within the team, reflecting Adani’s core values in all interactions and decision-making. 
• Stay abreast of the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes impacting tunnelling and construction design. 
• Represent Adani in industry forums, technical committees, and conferences to showcase the company’s leadership and innovation in tunnelling design.

Qualifications

Education Qualification- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related disciplines from a recognized university. Certification Required- Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification. - Certifications in tunnelling design and project management such as PMP, tunnelling specialist certifications, or relevant software certifications. 

Experience- Minimum 20 years of progressive experience in the construction industry with a strong focus on tunnelling project design and execution.
