Service General Manager (Aftersales) – Role SummaryA Service General Manager (GM – Aftersales) leads the entire aftersales ecosystem of an automotive dealership or group, with full responsibility for profitability, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction. The role serves as the key link between dealership leadership, service teams, and the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).
- Key Responsibilities1. Financial & Operational ManagementOwn full P&L responsibility for service and parts departments
- Drive revenue growth through service, parts, and value-added offerings
- Monitor KPIs such as:
- Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI)
- Workshop throughput
- Absorption rate
- Warranty performance
- Optimize:
- Workshop efficiency and bay utilization
- Turnaround time (TAT)
- Parts inventory and availability
- Ensure compliance with OEM standards, safety norms, and regulations
- 2. Strategic Leadership & Team ManagementLead and mentor:
- Service Managers
- Workshop Managers
- Technical and front-line staff
- Set performance targets and conduct regular reviews
- Design incentive and productivity programs
- Build a culture of:
- Accountability
- Continuous improvement
- High employee engagement
- 3. Customer Experience & Business DevelopmentDevelop strategies to improve customer retention and loyalty
- Handle critical customer escalations and protect brand reputation
- Improve customer journey across service touchpoints
- Identify:
- Local market opportunities
- Competitive positioning
- New revenue streams (AMC, extended warranty, accessories, etc.)
- Core Skills & CompetenciesAutomotive Expertise: Service operations, diagnostics, warranty systems
- Financial Acumen: Budgeting, cost control, margin optimization
- Leadership: Managing large, multi-level teams
- Analytical Thinking: KPI-driven decision-making
- Communication: Strong coordination with OEMs, customers, and internal teams
- Typical QualificationsBachelor’s degree (Business / Automotive Engineering preferred)
- 8–15+ years in automotive service/aftersales
- Proven leadership in dealership or OEM environment
- Certifications in automotive management (optional but valuable)
