Phlebotomist – Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from patients using proper venipuncture and capillary techniques
• Identify patients correctly and explain procedures to reduce anxiety
• Label, store, and transport specimens accurately following safety protocols
• Ensure strict adherence to infection control and hygiene standards
• Maintain and sterilize phlebotomy equipment
• Handle patients with care, including children, elderly, and anxious patients
• Record patient information and test details correctly in reports/systems
• Dispose of biomedical waste as per guidelines
• Assist lab technicians and pathologists when required

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Diploma in Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Technology
• Knowledge of blood collection techniques and safety standards
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work under pressure and handle patients calmly
