Job Description
An Accountant in an Indian ethnic and fabric store is responsible for managing all day-to-day financial transactions, ensuring tax compliance (primarily GST and TDS), and maintaining accurate records for specialized inventory like high-value silks and dress materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Record-Keeping: Maintain daily books of accounts, including sales, purchases, and expenses using software like Tally ERP or Zoho Books.
- Tax Compliance: Handle end-to-end GST compliance, including filing GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B returns and performing ITC reconciliations. Manage TDS and TCS calculations and monthly filings.
- Inventory & Costing: Monitor stock levels and manage inventory accounting. In some stores, this includes garment costing, calculating per-garment costs based on fabric consumption and accessories (BOM).
- Banking & Reconciliation: Perform regular bank and ledger reconciliations to ensure accuracy in financial data. Manage vendor payments and follow up on outstanding receivables.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly MIS reports, profit and loss statements, and balance sheets for management review.
- Audit Support: Coordinate with external auditors and Chartered Accountants (CAs) for statutory audits and finalization of annual accounts.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (B.Com) or a related field; M.Com or CA Inter is often preferred for senior roles.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Tally Prime/ERP 9 and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) is essential.
- Experience: Typically, 2–5 years in retail or textile accounting. Experience in the garment industry is a significant advantage for understanding fabric unit conversions and cost centers.
- Attention to Detail: High precision in data entry and a strong understanding of Indian accounting standards and local tax laws.
Compensation & Work Environment
- Salary Range: Monthly pay typically ranges from ₹25,000 to ₹30,000,
