Assembly Fitter

The Assembly Fitter is responsible for assembling mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and complete machines as per drawings, specifications, and quality standards. The role requires good hands-on skills, understanding of mechanical drawings, and the ability to use hand and power tools safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Assemble mechanical parts, sub-assemblies, and machines as per engineering drawings and work instructions

Perform fitting operations such as drilling, tapping, grinding, filing, reaming, and alignment

Read and interpret mechanical drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions

Ensure proper fitment, tolerance, and alignment of components

Use hand tools, power tools, jigs, fixtures, and measuring instruments (vernier, micrometer, dial gauge)

Identify defects, missing parts, or deviations and report to the supervisor

Conduct basic functional checks after assembly

Maintain quality, safety, and housekeeping (5S) standards on the shop floor

Coordinate with machining, quality, and stores teams for smooth assembly flow

Support machine installation, trial runs, and commissioning if required

Follow company safety rules and standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Required Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of mechanical fitting and assembly

Ability to read engineering drawings

Hands-on experience with manual and power tools

Understanding of tolerances and fits

Basic knowledge of hydraulics/pneumatics (preferred)

Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

Attention to detail and quality consciousness

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Qualifications

ITI – Fitter / Mechanical Trade (preferred)

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (added advantage)

2–5 years of relevant experience in machine assembly / industrial equipment manufacturing

Working Conditions

Factory/shop-floor environment

Standing for long hours

Handling mechanical parts and tools

Overtime or shift work as per production requirements
