Echo Technician

Core responsibilities

• Perform echocardiograms (transthoracic, stress echo)
• Position patients and operate ultrasound equipment to capture high-quality heart images
• Measure and analyze heart structures, blood flow, and valve function
• Recognize normal vs abnormal findings and flag urgent issues
• Document results clearly for cardiologists to interpret

Patient care

• Explain procedures and calm anxious patients
• Monitor patient comfort and vital signs during exams
• Maintain professionalism and patient confidentiality

Technical duties

• Adjust ultrasound settings for accurate imaging
• Maintain and troubleshoot echo equipment
• Follow infection control and safety protocols

Collaboration

• Work closely with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare staff
• Assist during stress tests or specialized echo procedures

Administrative tasks

• Maintain patient records and reports
• Schedule exams and manage workflow (varies by workplace)

• Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology
• Attention to detail and hand-eye coordination
• Communication and empathy
• Physical stamina (standing, assisting patients, repetitive scanning)
