Pharmacy Assistant

Job Role / PurposeThe Pharmacy Aide supports the hospital pharmacy operations by assisting pharmacists in dispensing, stocking, documentation, and maintaining cleanliness and compliance, while strictly following hospital rules, drug regulations, and patient safety standards.

• Key Roles & ResponsibilitiesDispensing Support (Under Pharmacist Supervision)Assist the pharmacist in preparing and issuing medicines strictly as per prescription.
• Ensure correct medicine, quantity, batch number, and expiry date before handing over.
• Pack medicines properly and label as instructed by the pharmacist.
• No independent dispensing or substitution of medicines is permitted.
• Inventory & Stock ManagementReceive medicines and consumables from stores and suppliers.
• Arrange medicines systematically as per FIFO/FEFO norms.
• Monitor near-expiry and damaged stock and inform the pharmacist immediately.
• Assist in daily, weekly, and monthly stock verification.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper storage conditions (temperature, humidity).
• Documentation & RecordsAssist in maintaining pharmacy registers, issue slips, and stock records.
• Support billing coordination with the pharmacy billing/front office team.
• Ensure proper filing of prescriptions and issue records as per hospital policy.
• IPD / Ward Supply SupportAssist in preparing ward medicine indents and emergency drug trays.
• Coordinate with nursing staff for timely medicine supply.
• Ensure urgent and emergency medication requests are handled promptly.
• Housekeeping & SafetyMaintain hygiene, cleanliness, and orderliness in the pharmacy area.
• Follow biomedical waste segregation guidelines inside the pharmacy.
• Report spillage, breakage, or discrepancies immediately.
• Patient InteractionGuide patients courteously for billing counters or pharmacist consultation.
• Maintain polite communication and confidentiality at all times.
• Hospital Rules & Regulations (Mandatory Compliance)Must work strictly under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
• Unauthorized handling, issuing, or recommending medicines is strictly prohibited.
• Follow Drugs & Cosmetics Act, hospital SOPs, and NABH/quality standards.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and data privacy at all times.
• Adhere to shift timings, attendance, dress code, and ID badge policy.
• Consumption or misuse of hospital medicines is a punishable offense.
• Any discrepancy in stock or billing must be reported immediately.
• Maintain discipline, ethical conduct, and teamwork.
• Skills & CompetenciesBasic knowledge of medicines and pharmacy workflow

• Physically fit to stand for long hours and handle stock

• Diploma in Pharmacy Assistant / Pharmacy Aide course
• Certificate in Hospital Pharmacy Operations

• D.Pharm / B.Pharm is NOT mandatory, but an added advantage.
• Freshers can be considered with proper on-the-job training.
• Experience0–2 years experience in hospital pharmacy preferred
