Quality Assurance & Technical Lead/Manager – School & Institutional Uniforms

Location: Bengaluru (with regular vendor factory visits)

Experience: 2–3 years

Salary: 38,000 - 42,000

Industry Preference: School / Institutional / Corporate Uniforms

Reporting To: Head of Operations / Merchandising Head

Role Summary

Gubbacci is looking for a hands-on Quality Assurance & Technical Lead who deeply understands tech packs, patterns, garment construction, and production quality.

This role’s primary objective is to eliminate quality failures before garments reach the warehouse, by ensuring:

  • Tech pack measurements are correct and practical
  • Patterns exactly match approved tech packs
  • Vendors follow approved specs during cutting and stitching
  • Inline quality issues are identified and corrected early

You will act as the single owner of garment quality across the entire production lifecycle, working closely with vendors, internal merchandising, and junior QC associates.

Key Responsibilities

1. Tech Pack & Pattern Validation (Critical Responsibility)

  • Review and validate all standardized tech packs for accuracy, consistency, and manufacturability
  • Ensure patterns developed internally or by vendors match tech pack measurements exactly
  • Cross-check:
  • POM (Points of Measurement)
  • Tolerances
  • Fit intent (school / institutional comfort & durability)
  • Approve patterns before bulk cutting begins
  • Flag design or measurement risks before production starts

2. Vendor Pre-Production & Inline Quality Control

  • Conduct pre-production meetings with vendors to explain tech packs, patterns, and quality expectations
  • Perform inline inspections during:
  • Fabric cutting
  • Stitching
  • Assembly
  • Identify issues such as:
  • Measurement deviations
  • Stitching inconsistencies
  • Pattern misuse
  • Fabric defects
  • Ensure corrections are made immediately at the factory level

3. Factory Audits & Vendor Quality Compliance

  • Visit vendor factories regularly to:
  • Monitor adherence to approved specs
  • Ensure correct use of patterns and measurements
  • Enforce Gubbacci’s quality standards
  • Act as the quality authority for vendor approvals and escalations
  • Reduce rejection rates by solving root causes at the source

4. Final Quality Oversight (Before Warehouse Inward)

  • Ensure most quality issues are resolved before goods reach the warehouse
  • Coordinate with vendors on rework or replacements before dispatch
  • Support warehouse QC team only for exceptions, not routine failures

5. Managing & Training Junior Quality Associates

  • Lead and guide a team of 3 junior Quality Associates
  • Define:
  • Measurement SOPs
  • Acceptance / rejection criteria
  • Tolerance limits
  • Train the team to identify true defects vs acceptable variations
  • Review QC reports and vendor rejection trends

6. Continuous Improvement & Documentation

  • Maintain:
  • Quality checklists
  • Inspection reports
  • Vendor-wise defect analysis
  • Suggest improvements to:
  • Tech packs
  • Fit standards
  • Construction methods
  • Work closely with merchandising and operations to improve first-pass quality

Required Skills & Knowledge

Technical & Industry Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of:
  • Garment construction
  • Patterns & grading basics
  • Tech packs & POMs
  • School / institutional uniform manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience in inline inspections and factory-level QC

Quality & Process Skills

  • Ability to identify root causes of quality failures
  • Strong eye for detail and consistency
  • Clear communication with vendors and internal teams

Basic Sewing & Construction Knowledge

  • Understanding of stitching techniques, seams, fittings, and finishes
  • Ability to explain defects clearly to production teams

Experience & Background

  • 2–3 years of experience in:
  • Garment QA / Technical / Merchandising roles
  • Strong preference for candidates with uniform industry experience
  • (School, institutional, corporate uniforms)
  • Experience working directly with factories/vendors is mandatory

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Significant reduction in warehouse rejections
  • Vendors consistently follow approved patterns and tech packs
  • Most quality issues are resolved before dispatch
  • Junior QC team works efficiently with minimal escalations
  • Gubbacci’s fit and quality standards are consistently met across vendors
