Job Description - Ph.D. - Extraction Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Ph.D. professional with expertise in herbal extraction and extensive knowledge of botanical ingredients to drive innovation, process optimization, and product development at Greenspace. The ideal candidate will work on developing, improving, and scaling up extraction techniques for herbal, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical applications, ensuring regulatory compliance and high-quality output.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Herbal Extraction & Process Optimization

• Develop and optimize extraction processes (solvent extraction, hydro-distillation, supercritical CO₂, ultrasonic/microwave-assisted extraction).
• Improve yield, purity, and active compound concentration in herbal extracts.
• Conduct pilot-scale studies and support the transition to commercial production.

2. Extensive Knowledge of Botanical Ingredients & Phytochemistry

• Research and evaluate bioactive compounds in medicinal plants and their health benefits.
• Work on the standardization of botanical extracts based on phytochemical profiles.
• Ensure sustainable and ethical sourcing of high-quality raw botanical materials.

3. Research & Innovation

• Develop new formulations using botanical actives for Ayurvedic and herbal products.
• Stay updated on global trends in herbal extraction, phytochemistry, and plant-based therapeutics.
• Collaborate with R&D, Quality Control (QC), and Production teams to enhance product development.

4. Regulatory & Quality Compliance

• Ensure strict adherence to GMP, AYUSH, FSSAI, and other regulatory standards.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, batch records, and validation protocols for extraction processes.
• Monitor and analyze critical quality parameters (solvent residues, bioactivity, stability).

5. Equipment & Process Control

• Operate and maintain extraction equipment (percolators, evaporators, filtration units).
• Troubleshoot process deviations and optimize equipment performance.

6. Team Collaboration & Training

• Work closely with cross-functional teams (R&D, Production, QC, Regulatory Affairs) to ensure process efficiency.
• Train production staff on best practices in botanical extraction, safety measures, and process standardization.

Qualifications & Experience:

✔ Ph.D. in Phytochemistry, Natural Product Chemistry, Botany, Biotechnology, or a related field.

✔ Minimum 5+ years of experience in herbal extraction, nutraceuticals, or pharmaceuticals.

✔ Extensive knowledge of medicinal plants, botanical ingredients, and their active compounds.

✔ Strong expertise in solvent selection, active compound isolation, and process optimization.

✔ Knowledge of HPLC, GC, UV, and other analytical techniques for extract standardization.

✔ Understanding of GMP, regulatory guidelines, and QC parameters.
