BME (Biomedical Engineering) Consultant

Role Overview

A strategic technical partner responsible for ensuring that all medical equipment across the healthcare chain is advanced, compliant, fully functional, and seamlessly integrated into a digital ecosystem. The consultant will drive operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and technology optimization across diagnostic, laboratory, pharmacy, and tele-health domains.

Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement & Technology Advisory

• Evaluate, compare, and recommend high-end diagnostic and therapeutic equipment such as, Digital X-rays, Ultrasound/ECHO platforms, laboratory analysers, ECG & PFT devices.

• Conduct technical due diligence, lifecycle cost analysis, and ROI assessments.

• Lead vendor negotiations and standardization across multi-site facilities.

2. Maintenance & Asset Management Strategy

• Design and implement comprehensive Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs.

• Structure AMCs & CMCs contracts, Monitor equipment uptime and service KPIs.

• Develop centralized biomedical asset tracking systems.

3. Regulatory Compliance & Safety

• Ensure all medical devices comply with national healthcare regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Implement radiation safety protocols and calibration standards.

• Maintain audit-ready documentation for inspections and certifications.

4. Clinical Staff Training & Adoption

• Conduct workshops and hands-on training for doctors, technicians, and nursing staff.

• Develop SOPs for safe, efficient, and optimized equipment usage.

• Support change management during new technology implementation.

5. IoT & Digital Integration

• Integrate diagnostic devices (lab analysers, patient monitors, imaging systems) with cloud based HIS/LIS/EMR systems.

• Ensure secure real-time data syncing and interoperability. Collaborate with IT teams to maintain cybersecurity and network reliability.

6. Laboratory Automation Oversight

• Supervise automated lab workflows to ensure ≥99.9% uptime.

• Optimize process efficiency and reduce manual intervention errors.

• Implement predictive maintenance using analytics dashboards.

7. Pharmacy Technology Management

• Oversee smart storage systems, including temperature-controlled pharmaceutical refrigerators with automated logging and alert systems.

• Ensure compliance with drug storage regulations and audit requirements.

8. Tele-health Hardware Management

• Maintain high-definition diagnostic peripherals (digital stethoscopes, otoscopes, dermatoscopes etc.).

• Ensure seamless integration with telemedicine platforms.

• Support remote specialist consultations with reliable, high-quality hardware.

Qualifications & Requirements Education

• Dip in Biomedical Engineering or B-Tech/BE.

• Certification in Health Informatics, Medical Networking, or Healthcare IT Systems preferred. Experience

• 5+ years of experience in biomedical engineering.

• Experience consulting for multi-site hospitals or diagnostic chains preferred.

• Demonstrated success in building “paperless” or fully digitized clinical environments. Core Competencies
