Job Description

A Cake Maker Job Description (JD) outlines duties like designing, baking, and decorating custom cakes (weddings, birthdays) using fondant, buttercream, etc., while managing inventory, maintaining cleanliness, consulting with clients, and ensuring quality/timeliness, requiring creativity, detail-orientation, and sometimes baking skills, with qualifications often including relevant experience or a pastry diploma. 

Responsibilities:

  • Design & Creation: Create visually appealing cakes for various events, interpreting client visions.
  • Baking: Prepare cake bases, frostings, fillings (ganache, creams) following recipes.
  • Decoration: Use tools for fondant work, piping, airbrushing, edible flowers, etc..
  • Client Interaction: Consult with customers on designs, flavors, and special requests.
  • Operations: Maintain inventory, clean workstations/equipment, manage supplies, and ensure food safety.
  • Quality Control: Ensure cakes meet quality standards and deadlines for pickup/delivery. 

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience: Prior cake decorating or pastry experience.
  • Creativity: Artistic flair, ability to create unique designs, knowledge of trends.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with decorating tools, icing, fondant, modeling chocolate.
  • Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, time management, communication, customer service.
  • Physical: Stamina to stand for long periods, steady hand, manual dexterity.
  • Education: Diploma/certificate in baking/hospitality often preferred.
