• Caretaker Responsibilities in a Nursing Home1. Personal Care & Daily Living SupportAssist residents with bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting
• Support mobility, transfers, and positioning (bed to wheelchair, walking support)
• Help with feeding and ensure proper nutrition and hydration
• Change linens and maintain personal hygiene standards
• 2. Medical & Health Support (Under Supervision)Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, etc.)
• Assist nurses in administering medications as per protocol
• Observe and report changes in residents’ health, behavior, or mood
• Assist with wound care and basic medical procedures (as instructed)
• 3. Resident Safety & ComfortEnsure a safe, clean, and hygienic environment
• Follow infection control and safety protocols
• Prevent falls by assisting residents and monitoring risk areas
• Respond promptly to emergencies and alert nursing staff
• 4. Emotional & Psychological SupportProvide companionship and emotional reassurance
• Communicate patiently and respectfully with residents
• Encourage social interaction and participation in activities
• Support residents with cognitive challenges (e.g., dementia or Alzheimer’s)
• 5. Documentation & CommunicationMaintain daily care logs and reports
• Communicate effectively with nurses, doctors, and supervisors
• Update families (as per policy) regarding residents’ well-being
• Follow handover procedures during shift changes
• 6. Housekeeping & Environment CareKeep resident rooms and common areas clean and organized
• Assist with laundry of residents’ clothes and bedding
• Ensure medical equipment is cleaned and properly stored
• 7. Compliance & Professional ConductFollow nursing home policies, procedures, and ethics
• Maintain confidentiality of resident information
• Use proper body mechanics to avoid injury
• Participate in training and continuous skill development
• 8. End-of-Life & Special Care Support (If Applicable)Provide compassionate care for terminally ill residents
• Support comfort, dignity, and emotional needs
• Assist family members during difficult times
