CCTV Technician

Role Overview

A CCTV Technician installs, configures, maintains, and repairs closed-circuit television (CCTV) and security surveillance systems. The role focuses on ensuring reliable video monitoring for safety, security, and loss prevention in residential, commercial, and industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Install CCTV cameras, DVRs/NVRs, monitors, and related equipment
• Plan camera placement for maximum coverage and minimal blind spots
• Run, terminate, and test cabling (coaxial, Ethernet, fiber where required)
• Configure IP cameras, network settings, and remote viewing access
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues
• Perform routine maintenance and system upgrades
• Replace faulty components and ensure system uptime
• Integrate CCTV with alarms, access control, or fire systems (if applicable)
• Maintain installation reports, service logs, and client documentation
• Train clients or security staff on basic system operation

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of CCTV systems (analog & IP-based)
• Understanding of networking basics (IP addressing, routers, PoE)
• Cable management and termination skills
• Ability to read technical drawings and site layouts
• Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Attention to detail and safety awareness
• Good communication and customer-service skills

Tools & Technologies

• CCTV cameras (analog, HD, IP)
• DVRs / NVRs
• Network switches and PoE injectors
• Crimping tools, cable testers, multimeters
• Monitoring and configuration software

Qualifications

• Diploma or certification in Electronics, Electrical, IT, or Security Systems
• CCTV or surveillance system certification
• Knowledge of local security and safety regulations
• Valid driving license (often required for field work)

Work Environment

• On-site installations at homes, offices, malls, factories, or public spaces
• Indoor and outdoor work, sometimes at heights
• May involve shift work or on-call support
