Job Description

Commis Chef – Client-First Specialty Coffee ShopOverviewWe are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Commis Chefs to join our culinary team. In our client-first specialty coffee shop, food is an essential part of the guest experience. You will support the preparation of fresh, high-quality dishes that complement our coffee program, while contributing to a warm, guest-centered environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation & Quality Assist in the preparation of menu items including breakfast dishes, pastries, sandwiches, light lunches, and other café offerings.
  • Follow recipes, portioning standards, and presentation guidelines to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Support other chefs in daily prep, mise en place, and production tasks.
  • Maintain high standards of taste, texture, and visual presentation.
  • Guest Experience Support Collaborate with the barista and service teams to ensure food orders are accurate, timely, and beautifully presented.
  • Adapt food preparation or plating to support personalized guest requests when appropriate.
  • Contribute to a warm, hospitality-focused environment by supporting smooth kitchen-to-front-of-house communication.

Kitchen Operations & Cleanliness

  • Keep workstations clean, organized, and compliant with health & safety regulations.
  • Properly store ingredients and adhere to food hygiene, temperature control, and allergen protocols.
  • Assist in receiving, checking, and storing deliveries.
  • Participate in daily opening and closing procedures.
  • Teamwork & Development Work closely with the Chef in-charge and café leadership team to maintain a cohesive workflow.
  • Take direction well, ask questions when needed, and be proactive in learning new skills.
  • Contribute to menu testing and improvements as opportunities arise.

Qualifications


  • Required Basic culinary training or previous kitchen experience (professional or high-volume café preferred).
  • Strong work ethic and ability to maintain pace during busy periods.
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Passion for food, quality, and improving skills.
  • Preferred Experience working in a café, bakery, or specialty coffee environment.
  • Knowledge of continental cafe-style food and preparation techniques.
  • Adhere to following set systems and processes.
