Job Title : Engineering Design Manager (Bulk Material Processing)
Job Location: Bangalore (Electronic City). 5-days, Work From Office.
Reporting to Director
Primary purpose:
The Design Manager will lead the design and development of technical solutions in line with project, proposal, and organizational goals. This role involves managing a team of design engineers, driving standardization and innovation, and ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and timely outputs. The manager will collaborate across departments such as proposals, sales, project execution, and R&D to align engineering deliverables with business objectives.
Must Have experience in detailed engineering designing of equipments like, Screw conveyers, silos, Hoppers, Pneumatic conveying, Dust collectors, bin activators etc.,
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design Management & Technical Leadership
- Lead the end-to-end engineering design process from concept development to final design approval.
- Provide technical inputs during proposal and project stages to ensure design feasibility, cost optimization, and manufacturability.
- Review and validate engineering calculations, system layouts, and detailed design documentation.
- Ensure compliance with internal standards, client specifications, and industry regulations.
2. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Liaise with proposal, sales, project, and procurement teams to align on project scope and design expectations.
- Participate in technical discussions with clients and vendors to resolve design-related queries and incorporate feedback.
- Undertake site visits and coordinate with the execution team to confirm measurements, fitments, and design interfaces.
3. Standardization & Innovation
- Lead the creation and maintenance of standardized design templates, calculation tools, and libraries.
- Drive engineering best practices, modular design concepts, and digital engineering tools to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Foster innovation by exploring new materials, processes, and technologies applicable to product design and development.
4. Project & Schedule Management
- Ensure design deliverables are completed on time as per project and sales schedules.
- Prioritize workload and allocate design tasks based on urgency and team capacity.
- Track design milestones, coordinate approvals, and resolve bottlenecks proactively.
5. Team Management & Development
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of design engineers, drafters, and interns.
- Establish performance objectives, conduct regular reviews, and ensure skill development through training and mentoring.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
6. Quality, Cost & Efficiency Focus
- Ensure high-quality design outputs with minimal errors or rework.
- Contribute to cost reduction by optimizing designs for material usage, fabrication, and assembly.
- Monitor departmental KPIs and maintain design team efficiency levels above 90%.
7. Risk Management & Escalation
- Identify and escalate design challenges, conflicts, or resource constraints early to management.
- Implement corrective actions and improvements based on post-project reviews and feedback.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Adherence to design timelines and milestones
- Quality rating of engineering outputs
- Reduction in fabrication and assembly costs due to design improvements
- Number of standardized templates or innovations implemented
- Stakeholder satisfaction (internal & external)
- Departmental efficiency and utilization rates
- Frequency and effectiveness of team training and mentoring
- Number of technical issues resolved without escalation
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelors/Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 10-15 years of engineering design experience, with at least 5–7 years in a leadership or managerial role
- Strong understanding of 3D modeling, CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, etc.), and engineering calculation methods
- Experience in turnkey systems, product development, or industrial design preferred
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and quality standards
- Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills
- Proven leadership skills with a hands-on, solution-oriented approach
