Motor Pump Rewinding Technician

Job OverviewLead end-to-end rewinding and repair of electric motors and pumps, restoring burnt units to near factory efficiency using the correct copper gauge, insulation class, and advanced winding techniques.

• Key ResponsibilitiesA. Diagnosis & StrippingInspect burnt motors to identify exact failure causes such as single phasing, overload, water ingress, or bearing seizure.
• Record complete winding data before stripping, including wire gauge, number of turns, pitch, and connection type.
• Strip old windings safely without damaging the stator core/laminations.
• Clean and prepare stator slots thoroughly, removing old varnish and debris.
• B. Rewinding OperationsSelect and install correct slot insulation (Class B/F/H) as per motor design.
• Produce uniform coils on winding machines with accurate turn count and proper tension.
• Insert coils into slots carefully to avoid enamel damage on copper conductors.
• Execute complex internal connections (Star, Delta, Series, Parallel) and solder terminations reliably.
• Finish windings with wedges, proper lacing, and varnish (dip and bake) for long-term insulation strength.
• C. Pump-Specific WorkHandle submersible pumps (V3, V4, V6, V8) with waterproof winding practices and watertight cable joints for water-filled motors.
• Inspect and replace critical mechanical parts like oil seals, mechanical seals, bushes, and thrust bearings during assembly.
• Ensure precise rotor alignment to minimize heating and vibration issues.
• D. Testing & Quality ControlPerform post-rewinding tests: megger (IR), continuity and resistance, and earth leakage checks.
• Conduct no-load and full-load trials to verify current (amps), temperature, and vibration levels.
• Confirm direction of rotation (RPM) suits the pump’s hydraulic requirements.
• Qualifications & ExperienceEducation: ITI (Electrician/Wireman) or Diploma in Electrical Engineering; motor winding certification is an added advantage.
• Experience: 2–5 years in a motor rewinding workshop with proven work on both single-phase (domestic) and three-phase (industrial/agricultural) motors.
• Skills & AttributesStrong knowledge of copper wire gauges (SWG) and their current-carrying capacity.
• Hands-on use of multimeters, clamp meters, and insulation testers.
• Ability to read, understand, and replicate complex winding diagrams.
• Proficiency in brazing and soldering heavy joints.
• Excellent manual dexterity and steady hands for fine winding work.
• High attention to detail, especially in counting turns and following data accurately.
• Strong safety mindset, always working on de-energized equipment until formal testing.
