Roles & Responsibilities – Physician Assistant (Hospital)

1. Clinical Care & Patient Management

Assist doctors in examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients

Take detailed medical history and perform physical examinations

Monitor patient vitals, progress, and response to treatment

Provide first-line care under physician supervision

Assist in ward rounds and clinical discussions

2. Diagnostic & Therapeutic Support

Order and interpret basic laboratory investigations and imaging (as per protocol)

Assist in procedures such as wound dressing, suturing, catheterization, and injections

Prepare patients for procedures and surgeries

Administer medications as prescribed

3. Inpatient & Outpatient Responsibilities

Manage OPD patients, triage cases, and coordinate follow-ups

Support care of inpatients, including daily assessment and documentation

Assist during emergency care and stabilization of patients

Coordinate patient discharge planning and instructions

4. Documentation & Medical Records

Maintain accurate patient case sheets and progress notes

Prepare discharge summaries, referral notes, and medical reports

Ensure compliance with hospital policies, NABH standards, and legal requirements

5. Coordination & Communication

Act as a link between doctors, nurses, therapists, and patients

Communicate patient status clearly to consultants and care teams

Educate patients and families about treatment plans and precautions

6. Infection Control & Patient Safety

Follow infection control protocols and safety guidelines

Ensure adherence to hand hygiene, biomedical waste management, and PPE usage

Report adverse events or incidents promptly

7. Administrative & Support Functions

Assist in clinical audits, quality improvement, and hospital accreditation processes

Participate in training programs, CMEs, and departmental meetings

Support hospital operations during duty hours as assigned

8. Ethical & Professional Responsibilities

Maintain patient confidentiality and professional ethics

Practice within scope under supervision of registered medical practitioners

Demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and teamwork
