R&D Associate – Organic Chemistry

Location: Bengaluru (Bommasandra)

About the CompanyOur client is a fast-growing, R&D-led specialty chemicals company building an asset-light, innovation-driven business focused on process development and scalable manufacturing. The team works across multiple high-impact sectors including agrochemicals, surfactants & emulsifiers, flavours & fragrances, and pharmaceuticals.


Role Overview

We are looking for an R&D Associate (Organic Chemistry) to support process development, optimization, and scale-up of organic molecules. You will work closely with R&D and process teams to translate lab reactions into robust, manufacturable processes. This role suits someone who is hands-on in the lab, strong on fundamentals, and excited about industrial R&D.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, validate, and scale-up organic reactions from lab to pilot scale.
  • Run parallel experiments with strong planning, prioritization, and execution discipline.
  • Handle air- and moisture-sensitive reactions safely and effectively.
  • Perform isolation and purification using distillation, crystallization, chromatography, etc.
  • Investigate reaction mechanisms, identify impurities, and improve yield, quality, and robustness.
  • Interpret analytical data (NMR, LC/MS, HPLC, GC, etc.) to drive decisions and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct literature and prior-art searches using SciFinder/Reaxys and translate insights into experiments.
  • Maintain precise documentation in lab notebooks and write clear technical summaries/reports.
  • Follow lab safety, EHS, and IP/confidentiality protocols rigorously; proactively flag risks.
  • Qualifications & ExperienceB.Sc./M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry (or closely related discipline).
  • 1–5 years experience in R&D / process development (industry or equivalent).
  • Prior exposure to specialty chemicals / pharma intermediates / agrochemical / fine chemicals is preferred.

Skills Required

  • Strong fundamentals in organic chemistry and reaction mechanisms.
  • Strong experimental rigor: reproducibility, controlled experimentation, and root-cause analysis.
  • Comfortable with analytical interpretation and data-driven decision-making.
  • High ownership, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced R&D environment.
