Engineering Manager, Application Platform
Summary

You will be responsible for driving and coordinating major platform and cloud service products. This role is pivotal in shaping product architecture, driving technical reviews, and fostering a collaborative environment. We seek a leader passionate about cloud innovation, who thrives on solving complex challenges and empowering teams to deliver customer-centric solutions. Job Description
What you’ll do
Lead, mentor, and develop top-notch engineering talents across multiple product development teams, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
Own and drive the application development activities of multiple Scrum teams.
Drive the design, architecture, and technical reviews for cloud-based SaaS solutions, ensuring best practices and high-quality outcomes.
Champion the adoption of AI, cloud, and platform capabilities, embedding GenAI and automation into daily operations and product offerings.
Drive engineering best practices such as API first, TDD, and GitOps.
Coordinate the design, analysis, development, debugging, and improvement of Guidewire’s Insurance products.
Collaborate closely with product, design, and operations teams, partnering with engineering leadership to set and deliver quarterly and annual goals.
Ensure operational excellence by improving platform reliability, security, and efficiency, and anticipate risks to execution to drive risk mitigation.
Guide the team through complex problem-solving, technical challenges, and cross-functional initiatives, ensuring timely and impactful delivery.

What you’ll bring
Required Skills & Experience
Minimum 12 years of Software Development Experience, especially in building SaaS and/or PaaS products, and at a product company.
Minimum 3 years of experience in managing Software Engineers, including performance and career management.
Minimum 2 years of managing multiple Scrum teams in Software Product Development.
Demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement.
Strong programming experience in Java.
Proficiency in public cloud technologies (AWS preferably), Containerization, Kubernetes, CI/CD systems, and DevOps practices.
Solid understanding of system design principles, distributed systems, and architecture.
Strong skills in design and architecture reviews, with the ability to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical information to all sorts of audiences.
A ceaseless desire to improve how things get done, particularly using automation.
Commitment to Guidewire’s values of determination, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Preferred
Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience in the insurance technology domain or with large-scale enterprise SaaS products.
Familiarity with GenAI, automation, and cloud-native development best practices.
