Engineering Manager, YouTube Create

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• Experience with technical leadership leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• Experience architecting and developing cloud solutions to ambiguous problems.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud computing platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration, and conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and support career development.
• Define the technical idea and strategy for the backend services that support the mobile application, and work with mobile app teams to ensure integration and optimal performance.
• Oversee the development life-cycle, ensuring timely delivery of backend features.
• Collaborate with App campaigns for engagement (ACe) teams (e.g., capabilities, media generation, effects) to integrate their services and features, and work with Emerging Experiences and Community (EMCO) teams to ensure alignment and integration with platform initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with security and privacy best practices.
