GD Technology Investments Specialist - Assistant Manager - MFT - KGSCH

The Role

Reporting into the Head of Technology PMO and Investments and working closely with the Group Digital Leadership Team, PMO, Heads of Finance and FBPs – the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing effective commercial management of Technology investments and other funded projects.   The technology investment manager will be a critical role to enable the success of the firm’s Technology Portfolio and will be responsible for supporting on business case development, benefits identification and tracking, financial management and control, investment governance, investment finance processes, budget management and understanding specific project finance needs, managing risks and stakeholder expectations. The individual will also work on continuous improvement of ways of working in regards to financial oversight of activities across the portfolio.

 

Business case development 

  • Work closely with initiatives and projects to support in establishing commercial business cases with clear investment asks and ROI.  Integral part of the Annual Business Case submission process

  • Bring challenge and critique to business cases and investment prioritisation activity

  • Accountable for performing detailed financial modelling where required to inform and support all programmes and projects.

 

Investment governance

  • Working closely with the Head of TPMO, lead the technology investment PMO governance processes and help to drive the standards

  • Facilitate the financial and performance updates for the Technology Investment Board (TIB)

  • Work closely with the firms’ EPMO and finance functions to ensure standards are met and methods are followed

  • Complete detailed analysis on investment reporting packs and create investment summary packs for senior leadership and stakeholders 

 

Financial and Portfolio budget management

  • Manage the central finances for Technology investment and BAU projects

  • Hold projects to account by monitoring and tracking investment spend, proactively flagging potential risks and issues to the budget. Hold monthly challenge sessions to understand spend profiles 

  • Lead on planning and forecasting of technology investment budgets with the ability to consolidate and challenge budget submissions and rolling forecast - aligning closely with VRO for BAU budgeting

  • Take accountability for feeding into the firm’s annual and quarterly budgeting cycles flagging the impact of ongoing run costs on the overall Technology budget, as well as Technology’s rolling forecast cycle

  • Maintain sound cost control processes and lead invoice and expenses management processes for projects

  • Create, implement and execute any new finance ways of working and recharge models

  • Take responsibility within the Financial and budget management process to undertake the following underlying activities: Accruals, prepayments, Expense transfers. Weekly forecasting, Coupa purchase approvals and SAP code management.

 

Driving best practice

  • Upskill project and programme managers through learning sessions on financial management and business case best practice

  • Help and support Head of TPMO ensure financial management activities integrated into all project plans

  • Support the Head of TPMO and Head of Technology Transformation and Change with shaping and delivering finance strategies, processes, roadmaps and business cases

  • Work closely with the BAU Finance team to effectively communicate and transition project and programme finance requirements to BAU finance process

The Person

  • Experience of helping build business cases for an IT organisation and/or background in commercial management/IT Consulting/Programme PMO

  • Strong accounting and/or finance background (qualification preferred) with experience of managing budgets for large scale transformation programmes

  • Strong financial experience operating within a commercial environment.

  • Strong communication skills across a variety of forums and mediums. Proven ability to distil information into key messages and deliver succinctly according to audience.

  • Ability to understand complex data, analyse and present financial information coherently

  • Operates with minimum direction, self – starter, highly motivated, demonstrates initiative and is proactive in their approach to the business

  • Excellent Excel and financial modelling skills

  • Ability to work under pressure, work to tight deadlines with no detriment to the high-quality standards expected

  • Experience of successfully managing finances on complex, milestone driven projects

  • Experience at producing and presenting financial reports

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Excellent active listening skills

  • Ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of audiences

  • Ability to establish and maintain strong stakeholder relationships
