Reporting To: Lead – Early Lifecycle Management
Role Overview: The Lead – Background Verification is responsible for end-to-end background verification closures for a high-volume, fast-paced sales workforce. The role ensures timely, compliant, and accurate BGV outcomes through effective vendor governance, internal stakeholder coordination, and operational rigor.
Key Responsibilities
1. BGV Operations, Timely Closures and Documentation
- Own end-to-end BGV execution and closure for all new hires, ensuring adherence to defined TATs and hiring SLAs.
- Plan and manage BGV throughput in line with weekly hiring volumes (~1,000 hires/ week).
- Monitor daily dashboards for initiation, pendency, insufficiencies, and closures; drive corrective actions.
- Ensure zero critical slippages impacting onboarding, payroll eligibility or compliances.
- Ensure BGV process compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements and data privacy/ information security standards
2. Dispensations Management
- Manage BGV discrepancies, and exceptions in line with company policy.
- Coordinate with HRBPs and business stakeholders to evaluate risk, seek approvals and close dispensations or rejection cases
- Ensure clear documentation, audit trails, and decision rationale for dispensation cases.
3. Stakeholder Management and Reporting
- Provide clear, data-driven updates to the Leadership and HRBPs.
- Publish periodic MIS on TATs, closures, pendencies and exceptions.
- Proactively flag risks impacting onboarding timelines or business continuity.
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and trackers to support internal & external audits.
4. Partner Management
- Act as the primary SPOC for the BGV vendors.
- Drive vendor performance through regular reviews on TAT adherence, Quality of reports, Insufficiency management and Escalation handling
- Implement process improvements with vendors to support scale and reduce rework.
- Validate and approve BGV vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy against volumes, rates, and agreed commercials.
5. Team Management and Capability Building
- Lead and guide a team of BGV specialists
- Allocate work, manage capacity, and ensure consistent output quality.
- Regular reviews, coaching, and issue resolution to maintain operational discipline.
- Drive standardisation of SOPs, trackers, checklists and escalation mechanisms.
Key Qualifications & Experience
- Strong understanding of BGV processes (employment, address, education, database checks).
- Graduate / Postgraduate in HR, or a related field with 4-5 years of experience in HR Operations, or BGV Management
- Prior experience leading teams and managing BGV partners at scale is mandatory.
- High ownership, attention to detail and execution orientation
- Ability to operate under tight timelines and high pressure
- Strong stakeholder management and analytical skills; comfort with MIS and dashboards.
- Proficient in MS Excel/ Google spreadsheets
