Mainframe developer

• Primary skills: • Desirables:Technology->Mainframe Technologies->Mainframe Technologies- ALL • Knowledge of more than one technology • Basics of Architecture and Design fundamentals • Knowledge of Testing tools • Knowledge of agile methodologies • Understanding of Project life cycle activities on development and maintenance projects • Understanding of one or more Estimation methodologies, Knowledge of Quality processes • Basics of business domain to understand the business requirements • Analytical abilities, Strong Technical Skills, Good communication skills • Good understanding of the technology and domain • Ability to demonstrate a sound understanding of software quality assurance principles, SOLID design principles and modelling methods • Awareness of latest technologies and trends • Excellent problem solving, analytical and debugging skills Key Responsibilities: • Design, develop, and maintain mainframe-based applications using COBOL and related mainframe tools and utilities. • Analyze business requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and implement efficient, scalable solutions on the mainframe platform. • Perform impact analysis, code changes, unit testing, and integration testing for enhancements, defect fixes, and production support activities. • Optimize existing COBOL programs and mainframe jobs for performance, reliability, and maintainability. • Collaborate with business analysts, QA, and infrastructure teams to ensure end-to-end delivery of features and releases. • Provide L3 support for critical production issues, including root-cause analysis and permanent fixes. • Participate in code reviews, enforce coding standards, and contribute to best practices for mainframe development. • Create and maintain technical documentation, including design documents, job flows, and support guides. • Mentor junior team members on mainframe concepts, COBOL coding practices, and troubleshooting techniques. • Contribute to modernization initiatives, including refactoring legacy code and preparing systems for integration with newer technologies.
