Job Summary
Synechron is seeking an experienced MS SQL Database Developer to join our data management team. In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize enterprise-level SQL Server solutions for both OLTP and OLAP environments. Your expertise will support high-availability, secure, and scalable data systems that drive critical business insights and operational efficiency. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to implement best practices, enhance performance, and ensure data integrity across a broad range of projects.

Software Requirements

• Required: MS SQL Server (2016, 2019 or later), SQL Management Studio, SQL Profiler, T-SQL, Windows Server, Backup/Restore tools

• Preferred: Azure SQL Database, SQL Server Always On, Database Migration tools, DataETL tools (SSIS, Data Factory)

• Experience level: 5+ years of direct experience in SQL Server database development, performance tuning, and high-availability configurations

Overall Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage MS SQL Server databases supporting OLTP and OLAP workloads

• Develop and optimize complex stored procedures, triggers, views, and functions to support transactional and analytical processes

• Perform query tuning, indexing, partitioning, and other optimization techniques to enhance database performance and scalability

• Support data integration workflows, ETL processes, and data migration activities

• Ensure data security, quality, and compliance through proper configuration, auditing, and access controls

• Manage backup and recovery strategies to ensure high database availability and disaster recovery readiness

• Collaborate with development teams to support application performance and resolve database-related bottlenecks

• Maintain comprehensive documentation for database schemas, procedures, and operational standards

Technical Skills (By Category)

• Programming Languages:

  • Essential: T-SQL, SQL scripting, Transact-SQL programming

  • Preferred: PowerShell, Python (for automation and scripting)

• Databases/Data Management:

  • SQL Server (2016/2019+), database schema design, normalization, scalability, and indexing strategies

  • Experience with NoSQL solutions such as MongoDB is a plus

• Cloud Technologies:

  • Basic familiarity with cloud-based SQL services like Azure SQL Database (preferred)

• Frameworks and Libraries:

  • Not applicable; focus on SQL and database administration tools

• Development Tools & Methodologies:

  • SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Profiler, Data Migration tools, Agile methodologies, automated deployment practices

• Security & Compliance:

  • Implementation of role-based access control, auditing, encryption, and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA)

Experience Requirements

• 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and optimizing MS SQL Server databases

• Proven expertise in performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization for large-scale databases

• Hands-on experience implementing high-availability solutions such as Always On, replication, or clustering

• Experience working with OLTP and OLAP databases in enterprise environments

• Industry experience in finance, healthcare, or large-scale enterprise sectors is a plus; alternative backgrounds acceptable

Day-to-Day Activities

• Develop, implement, and optimize SQL Server database schemas, procedures, and functions

• Monitor database performance, analyze workload, and perform query tuning and indexing

• Support data migration, ETL processes, and data warehouse activities

• Configure and maintain high-availability, backup, and disaster recovery solutions

• Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues, deadlocks, and security concerns

• Collaborate with application developers, BI teams, and data analysts to meet project requirements

• Document database structures, configurations, and operational procedures

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent work experience accepted

• 5+ years of professional experience in enterprise MS SQL Server database development and management

• Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar are advantageous

• Strong expertise in query tuning, performance optimization, and high-availability configurations

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
