Location: Bangalore, India

Role Description

The Quantitative Strategist (Quant Strat) bridges advanced quantitative research with practical implementation across both front-office and second-line functions. Depending on the team, this role may sit within Trading, Treasury, Finance, or Risk Management with primary stakeholders typically being the Infrastructure functions. The Quant Strategist is instrumental in shaping the financial and risk architecture of the bank, with work output having a measurable impact on the financial performance and capital efficiency of the relevant division.
Work includes:

  • Design and implement quantitative models and analytics that support risk management, funding strategies, valuation control, and capital optimization.
  • Develop production-grade software and tools that integrate seamlessly into the firm’s strategic platforms (e.g., Kannon), enabling real-time pricing, risk, and P&L analytics.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Trading, Treasury, Finance, and Risk to ensure models and tools are aligned with business objectives and regulatory expectations.
  • Contribute to the development of control frameworks, including Independent Price Verification (IPV), Prudent Valuation (PruVal), and Fair Value Reserve methodologies.

Your key responsibilities

Logical reasoning and problem solving

  • Proven ability to manage different stakeholders
  • Proven ability to multi-task and meet sometimes aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to articulate issues in a structured manner, and undertake root cause analysis of problem areas
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills
  • Willing to take ownership and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in interpreting regulatory guidelines would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of basic project management methodologies, covering both waterfall and agile domains with the latter preferred.

Your skills and experience

Technical skills

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge in data science, big data tools and infrastructural components – Hadoop / Python/PySpark.
  • Expertise in SQL and Python, including work with complex queries across large transactional datasets.
  • Experience of working in cloud environments, and big data platforms and related technologies e.g., AWS, GCP, Snowflake, HDFS, Apache Spark, Big Query.
  • Experience in Threshold tuning and segmentation of AML detection rules for transaction monitoring, adapting to risk typologies relevant for the bank.
  • Practical coding experience in Python and supporting infrastructure (e.g. ML / NLP libraries)
  • Practical knowledge and experience in R or familiarity with complex statistical techniques used in big data projects
  • Experience in version control in big data– Bitbucket or similar.
  • Prior experience in cloud-based ecosystems such as Cloudera.
  • Perform advanced analytics on structured and semi-structured payment data, incorporating transaction metadata, behavior patterns, and alert feedback loops.
  • Advanced knowledge and practical experience in working with MS Excel and office automation tools in general, covering large datasets. Specifically, experience in pivoting, VBA and advanced MS Excel data analysis functionality would be significantly advantageous
  • Working knowledge and practical experience in enterprise Transaction Monitoring systems. The ideal candidate should have worked with TM systems in a support, implementation or consultancy role, specifically around the configuration capabilities of enterprise class TM systems
  • Prior experience with TM systems such as Oracle FCCM / Mantas, Smaragd, Detica or Actimize, will be a distinct advantage
  • Prior exposure to the banking / financial services industries in domain areas such as Transaction Banking / Cash Management / Wealth Management / Anti Money Laundering / Transaction Monitoring role will be an advantage
  • Prior working experience in
    • core banking systems 
    • payments systems and infrastructure such as SWIFT will be beneficial
  • Basic knowledge of basic project management methodologies, covering both waterfall and agile domains with the latter preferred.

Communication and Reasoning skills

  • Strong communication skills both written and oral via various media i.e. e-mail, phone, face to face and conference calls
  • Good communication skills to communicate at all levels – Country and Regional AFC teams, stakeholder management across multiple Operations Units and relevant parties in DBOI.

Generic skills

  • Keep track on various MI to ensure adherence to SLA’s
  • Contribute to responses involving internal and external / regulatory audit response initiatives and participate in remediation exercises as appropriate
  • Generate quality code output with detailed unit testing
  • Be amenable to working in a high-pressure and time-sensitive environment.
  • Take responsibility for rational prioritisation of tasks and ensure adherence to timelines for completion of activities
  • Ensure structured upward and downward communication. Contribute to relevant reporting requirements
  • Work closely with regional and central AFC modelling teams to ensure alignment on tasks and responsibilities
  • Adhere strictly to the bank’s data privacy standards
  • Strong adherence to AFC compliance and governance standards at all times
