Senior Backend Engineer

As a Senior Backend Engineer - Front Office, you will be responsible for building out the next generation of systems using the latest tools and quantitative techniques. The successful applicant will join the Real-time Derived Data Platform team within the Quant department, reporting to the Head of Quant Analytics.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Development for Analytics and Data:

• Work closely with quants and quant devs to develop and maintain APIs and ETL pipelines for analytics and data dissemination, ensuring that portfolio managers have accurate and timely information needed for decision-making.
•  Ensure the integrity and reliability of data feeding into downstream systems.

DevOps and Infrastructure Setup and Management:

• Work with the DevOps and platform teams to automate deployment processes, ensuring a streamlined delivery pipeline.
• Assist in setting up, configuring, and maintaining servers for optimal performance.
• Manage and deploy applications across various environments, ensuring system readiness and stability.
• Participate in system monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning to ensure system reliability and scalability.

Finance Understanding:

• Have a solid understanding of finance principles, macro trading strategies, and financial markets.
• Engage with trading desk personnel to ensure technological solutions align with trading objectives and strategies.
• Experience with credit bonds is a plus.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Work closely with trading desk personnel to understand their requirements and provide technological solutions.
• Work closely with the core quant library team to make new features available to end users.
• Communicate effectively with other team members, fostering a collaborative environment

Continuous Improvement:

• Stay updated with emerging technologies and introduce improvements to system operations.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure best practices.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• 5+ years of experience in backend development, focus on APIs and ETRL pipelines being a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in API development with RESTful, SOAP, or gRPC protocols application development and data engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in Python.
• 3+ years of experience in AWS.
• Experience working with quants and quant libraries across asset classes.
• Financial knowledge of rate and/or credit business, e.g., swaps, swaptions, bonds, corporate bonds, and CDS.
• Experience with containerisation and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes, e.g. Poetry, Conda, GitHub, GitOps and ETL pipelines, and scheduling, e.g. Prefect.
• Prior experience in Java is desirable. 
• Prior experience with time-series databases such as SnowFlake and MongoDB is desirable.
• Prior experience in finance, macro trading principles, quants and quant libraries across asset classes is highly desirable.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken, are crucial.
