Summary:

This is for a Systems Engineering (SE) position in the Airplane Systems (AS) Organization. As a member of AS team, ensures development of aircraft systems in compliance to required regulations, procedures and policies with focus on safety. The ideal candidate will seamlessly coordinate across multiple functional teams, leading systems development activities for Aircraft and Aircraft Systems. Systems Architect leads development of systems, integration and tests activities. This position requires knowledge and skill in the concept, development, integration, test, operation, maintenance of aircraft and aircraft systems. The ideal candidate will seamlessly coordinate across multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), ensuring continued safe operations of the Aircraft and Systems.

This position provides consultation and technical direction to cross functional design teams and management teams on near term and longer-range projects relative to Airplane Systems and risk estimation and management, including applicable regulations and standards.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate expert domain knowledge in two or more products namely, Cabin Systems, Flight Controls Systems, Flight Management System or other high safety critical airplane systems.
  • Designing the building blocks for the avionics systems as per ARP4754 & ARP4761.
  • Define & own System Architecture. Propose architectural enhancements for optimal safety solution
  • Derive System, Sub-System level requirements from aircraft level requirements, industry standards, concept operations and/or trade studies.
  • Perform trade studies, and evaluate alternate systems designs to propose the most optimal solutions for future avionics systems.
  • Coordinating and communicating regularly with experts in Boeing organizations around the world.
  • Identify, analyze, review, and mitigate potential hazards and risks associated with system designs in order to achieve enterprise and customer safety objectives while ensuring that the systems remain operationally responsive and effective
  • Develops basis of certification in accordance with the commercial / foreign military airworthiness certification standards.
  • Review and approve stage gate exits (SRR, PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, CERT and QUAL)
  • Leads the SRR PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, Certification/Qualification reviews
  • Checks for reuse and productivity improvement on overall architecture
  • Perform systematic and comprehensive safety assessments on the system architecture, integrated design, Hardware/software, support equipment, and installation of the subsystems, and experiments to ensure that relevant safety requirements are met
  • Partner with Technical Fellowship to author and maintain System Engineering Design Practices
  • Ensure Safety Management System goals are well understood and deployed in day-to-day activities.
  • Identify, communicate and mitigate the Risk, issues and Opportunities on a timely manner
  • Coordinate and collaborate across stakeholders (engineering, EHS, technicians, quality, leadership, customers) to ensure safety is integral to all activities and operations
  • Review engineering design specifications, test operations procedures, change proposals, deficiency reports, exceptions, and/or deviation/waiver requests for potential flight/ground test safety impacts
  • Represent Systems Group in Industry Standard Committee and support teams to adopt the practices
  • Participating in incident investigations and root cause/corrective action analyses as requested.
  • Acts as a technical advisor across group and supports multiple programs as needed.
  • Support preparation of presentations, analyses, and reports for government/customer, program design reviews, and test/mission readiness reviews.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • A Bachelor's or master's Degree is required as BASIC QUALIFICATION.
  • Bachelor, Master or Ph.D. degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, electronics, aerospace, mathematics, physics or chemistry with 18 or more years' experience, Master's with 16 or more years' experience or Ph.D. with 13 or more years' experience in aerospace systems / software engineering.
  • Experience in end-to-end design/development and in integrating multiple systems.
  • Having Hardware exposure from end-to-end lifecycle, integration experience is must.
  • Experience with Aircraft systems integration activities.
  • Excellent people skills, very strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external partners.
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, self-motivated, flexible and creative.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 15+ years of aerospace industry experience focused on systems and/or software engineering activities
  • 5+ years of Systems Engineering experience in fundamentals such as deriving requirements, validation / verification, functional integration, and Concept of Operations
  • Experience/Familiarity with the Development and test in accordance with appropriate commercial or military regulatory requirements, such as: RTCA DO-178C, RTCA DO-254, DO-330, DO-331, DO-332, SAE ARP4754A, SAE ARP4761, 14 CFR Part 23/25/27/29 for commercial and military qualification and certification of aircraft systems
  • Preferred experience utilizing model-based systems engineering tools like Cameo or Simulink.
  • Proficiency with SysML / UML representation.
  • Experience with aerospace systems engineering, together with the ability to visualize how information technology opportunities might be used to further the goals of the organization
  • Preferred experience presenting technical information, analyses, or proposals to senior leaders, regulators, or customers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, reporting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Candidate must be a self-starter with a positive attitude, high ethics, and a track record of working successfully under pressure in a time-constrained environment.
  • Technical competency and skills with project management concepts/tools.
  • Knowledge of advanced methods/Tools/Processes, address complex problems.
  • Additional certificates related to aviation/aerospace systems from reputed universities or organizations preferred.

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 15 to 18 year's related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience(e.g. Master+14 years of related work experience etc.
