Staff Data Engineer, Data & AI
Job Location: Bangalore, India
Calling all originals: At Levi Strauss & Co., you can be yourself — and be part of something bigger. We’re a company of people who like to forge our own path and leave the world better than we found it. Who believe that what makes us different makes us stronger. So add your voice. Make an impact. Find your fit — and your future.
We're looking for an innovative Staff Data Engineer to join our Levi's Data & AI Platform Engineering team to help in building the next generation of our enterprise-wide analytics and data assistant platforms. This is a unique opportunity to architect and build the "brain" that will power our company's decisions, from the design of our iconic jeans to the optimization of our global supply chain. You will be at the forefront of building cutting-edge agentic AI systems that will democratize data and empower our employees with intelligent, conversational insights.
About the Job
Design and build robust, scalable, and highly available backend systems that serve as the foundation for our enterprise-wide analytics and AI-powered data assistants.
Spearhead the development of our AI Data Assistants, creating intuitive, conversational interfaces for our business users. Evaluate and incorporate emerging technologies in AI, machine learning, and agent-based systems (e.g., ADK, A2A).
Engineer sophisticated data pipelines and data products from the ground up, catering to both traditional analytics and the nuanced needs of our advanced AI assistants.
You will build semantic search capabilities to unlock insights from our data warehouse, dashboards, and KPIs, and develop advanced root cause analysis and explainability features.
Design, build, and manage a robust semantic (and context) layer, ensuring data is consistent, reliable, understandable and easily accessible for a variety of use cases.
Work in a dynamic, cross-functional environment, partnering with world-class data scientists, analysts, and product managers to bring our vision to life and solve some of the most challenging problems in the retail industry.
Guide and mentor a talented team of junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence as you deliver transformative capabilities.
About You
A master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
9+ years of experience as a Data Engineer with a proven track record of building and managing large-scale data solutions and data products.
Proven experience in architecting and building large-scale, distributed backend systems in a cloud environment (preferably GCP).
Deep expertise in data modeling, data architecture, and the design of modern data pipelines (ETL/ELT) and data warehouses.
Hands-on experience building and deploying agentic AI systems, leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs), and related MLOps technologies.
A strong background in semantic search, vector databases, and modern information retrieval techniques.
A track record of technical leadership, including mentoring junior engineers and driving complex projects to completion.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
A passion for innovation and a desire to push the boundaries of what's possible with data and AI.
Desirable Experience:
Experience working in a retail or e-commerce environment.
Previous experience with Conversational Analytics platforms and building data agents is a strong plus.
Familiarity with agent development frameworks (e.g., Agent Development Kit - ADK) is a significant advantage.
If you are a builder who is passionate about creating intelligent, data-driven systems and are excited by the prospect of transforming a legendary company, we would love to hear from you.
