Chemical Engineer - Research and Development (R&D)


Job Overview:


The Chemical Engineer - Research and Development (R&D) will be responsible for conducting research and development activities to innovate, improve, products and technologies. This role involves working on the design, testing, developing novel materials, and improving the efficiency of existing production methods. The R&D Chemical Engineer will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including product development, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to ensure that new products and technologies meet industry standards and company objectives.

Key Responsibilities:


1. Research & Development:


o Design, conduct, and analyze experiments to develop new chemical processes, materials, and products.

o Investigate and develop innovative solutions for improving existing products, processes, and technologies.

o Develop and optimize chemical formulations, including catalyst design, reaction pathways, and product characteristics.

o Conduct bench-scale, pilot-scale, and lab experiments to test new ideas and concepts.


2. Product Development:


o Work closely with the product development team to design new chemical products that meet customer needs and regulatory requirements.

o Provide technical expertise for the development of new formulations, ensuring they are cost-effective, environmentally sustainable, and compliant with relevant industry standards.

o Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products are manufacturable and scalable.


3. Data Analysis and Reporting:


o Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data using statistical and modeling tools to drive decision-making.

o Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate research findings, results, and recommendations to internal teams and stakeholders.

o Maintain accurate records of experiments, procedures, and results according to company guidelines and industry standards.


4. Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing:


o Work closely with other engineers, chemists to integrate diverse knowledge and approaches into R&D projects.

o Participate in brainstorming sessions, technical meetings, and project reviews to share ideas and feedback.

o Stay current with the latest advancements in chemical engineering, materials science, and related technologies.


5. Innovation & Patent Development:


o Contribute to the development of innovative technologies that can be patented and commercialized.

o Assist in the preparation of intellectual property documentation and patent filings for novel inventions.


Qualifications:


 Educational Background:

o Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field (required).


 Experience:


o 3–5 years of experience in R&D or chemical engineering (preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting).

o Previous experience in product development, scale-up or chemical testing is highly desirable.


 Technical Skills:


o Strong knowledge of reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and kinetics.

o Familiarity with tools (e.g., Aspen Plus, Chem CAD, COM-SOL) and lab equipment (e.g., reactors, analytical instruments).

o Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools (e.g., MATLAB, Excel, JMP).

o Knowledge of optimization and scale-up principles.


 Other Skills:


o Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

o Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform complex calculations and data analysis.

o Good written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to present technical information clearly.

o Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
