Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and innovative Lubricants & Lubricant Additives Chemist to Develop, Evaluate, and Optimize formulations for Automotive, Industrial, and Specialty Lubricants.
The role involves hands-on laboratory work, formulation design, testing, data analysis, technical documentation, and cross-functional collaboration with production and sales teams having strong knowledge of base oils, additives, additives usage and manufacturing additives tribology, and ASTM test methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new formulations for Metalworking Fluids, Greases, and Specialty lubricants.
- Select appropriate base oils (Group I–V) and additive packages based on performance requirements.
- Optimize existing formulations to meet cost, performance, and regulatory targets.
- Evaluate synergistic effects of additive components (detergents, dispersants, VI improvers, anti-wear, EP, antioxidants, friction modifiers, etc.).
- Conduct physical and chemical testing following ASTM, BIS, and OEM standards.
- Perform tests such as viscosity, pour point, flash point, TBN/TAN, oxidation stability, corrosion tests, wear tests, foam, demulsibility, and shear stability.
- Evaluate additive treat rates and performance effects.
- Operate and troubleshoot various lab instruments.
- Manufacturing of various Additives for Engine, Hydraulic and Metal Working.
Q&A
- Monitor and ensure consistency of in-process and finished product quality.
- Prepare COA, product data sheets, and technical documents.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for quality issues and corrective actions.
Production & Technical
- Support Support scale-up from lab to plant batches.
- Collaborate with procurement for evaluating new raw materials and suppliers.
Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate formulations, test records, and batch data.
- Prepare SDS and TDS for new products.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- 5–8 years experience in lubricant formulation, additives, petroleum specialty chemicals.
- Strong understanding of base oils, additive chemistry, and tribology.
- Hands-on experience with ASTM test methods and laboratory instrumentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Lubricants additive manufacturer
- Knowledge of metalworking fluids, emulsions, and specialty products.
- Experience in scale-up and plant troubleshooting.
