Position: Shift Engineer – Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I)Level: M-9

Job Purpose: Responsible for managing and executing all Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) maintenance activities in the beneficiation plant. This includes ensuring equipment reliability, reducing downtime, and maintaining safety and operational standards during the shift.

Organization Chart: Reports to: Head – Maintenance E&I

  • Key Responsibilities: Manage shift operations for electrical and instrumentation activities in the beneficiation plant.
  • Coordinate between electrical and instrumentation teams for smooth plant functioning.
  • Implement and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for electrical systems, motors, switchgear, control panels, and process control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve breakdowns related to electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA).
  • Maintain field instrumentation, analyzers, and process control devices, ensuring accuracy through proper calibration and testing.
  • Optimize maintenance processes to enhance reliability, availability, and efficiency of equipment.
  • Coordinate with procurement and inventory teams to ensure the availability of critical spares and materials.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, minimizing risks to personnel and equipment.
  • Support the execution of CAPEX and operational improvement projects related to E&I.
  • Generate shift reports, downtime analysis, and RCA (Root Cause Analysis) for failures.
  • Drive compliance with regulatory requirements and safety standards.
  • Key Challenges: Managing unplanned breakdowns, machinery failures, and equipment unavailability.
  • Ensuring quick decision-making during critical breakdowns to minimize downtime (especially given the remote plant location).
  • Maintaining machinery efficiency and achieving low Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).
  • Key Decisions: Operational decisions related to breakdown handling and shift resource allocation.
  • Coordination decisions with cross-functional teams for smooth shift operations.
  • Prioritizing tasks during equipment failures and emergencies.
  • Cross-Functional Interactions: Internal: Service Team, Operations Team, Maintenance Team
  • External: MDO (Mine Developer and Operator), Vendors, OEMs, and other stakeholders
  • Financial & Team Dimensions: Manage shift-related maintenance budgets, spare parts consumption, and assist in CAPEX planning.
  • Responsible for a shift maintenance team as per the organizational structure.
  • Skills & Knowledge: Essential: Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or equivalent.
  • Desirable: Sound knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, automation, and process control systems.
  • Technical Skills: Hands-on experience in maintenance of motors, transformers, switchgear, control panels, and power distribution.
  • Proficiency with PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and industrial automation systems.
  • Calibration and troubleshooting of field instrumentation (pressure, flow, temperature, etc.).
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, permit systems, and best maintenance practices.
  • Exposure to SAP/CMMS systems for maintenance management is a plus.
  • Experience Required:5 to 10 years of relevant experience in Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance, preferably in mining, beneficiation, or heavy industries.
