Job Title: Engineering Metal Fabrication Fitter

Job Summary

The Fabrication Fitter is responsible for assembling, aligning, and fitting metal components according to engineering drawings and technical specifications. The role ensures proper fit-up of structural parts, plates, pipes, and frames before welding or final assembly while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication & Fit-Up

• Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and layout plans.

• Measure, mark, and prepare materials as per specifications.

• Align and fit structural steel, plates, beams, pipes, and assemblies.

• Perform tack welding (if qualified) to secure components.

• Ensure dimensional accuracy and proper tolerances.

• Carry out trial assemblies before final welding.

Quality Control

• Inspect materials and fabricated parts for defects.

• Ensure work complies with company quality standards and project requirements.

• Report discrepancies, material shortages, or drawing issues to the supervisor.

• Maintain accurate measurement and alignment records when required.

Tools & Equipment

• Operate hand tools and power tools such as grinders, drills, cutting torches, and clamps.

• Use precision measuring instruments (tape measure, vernier caliper, spirit level).

• Assist with lifting and positioning of heavy components using appropriate equipment.

Health & Safety

• Follow workplace safety policies and procedures.

• Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area.

• Comply with safety standards such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations or local equivalents.

Qualifications & Requirements

• ITI / Trade Certificate / Diploma in Mechanical or Fabrication Trade.

• 2–5 years of experience in structural steel or metal fabrication.

• Strong ability to read and understand engineering drawings.

• Good knowledge of fabrication processes and basic welding techniques.

• Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO 9001 is an advantage.

• Physically fit and able to handle heavy materials.
