Phlebotomist

Key Result Area.

1.  Performs all duties of a Phlebotomist in OPD area and Home Collection.

2.  Ensure that all disciplinary action is maintained as needed

3.  Ensure phlebotomy service personnel maintain a positive client/patient-focused attitude

4.  Effectively interacts in a pleasant, courteous and cordial manner with staff, and patients.

5.  Communicates essential information accurately to all appropriate personnel.

6.  Actively listens.

7.  Promotes effective communication flow to all levels.

1. Comply with infection control, biosafety, and patient safety standards

9.  Maintain Home collection kit and carry all required materials

10. Ensures all consumables used are within expiry date.

11. Ensures appropriate PPE worn at all times by phlebotomists whilst attending patients and gloves changed between patients.

12. Ensure pre-labelling and verify Patient identification using Two unique identities

13. Assess patient suitability for collection (fasting status, posture, recent transfusions, medications where applicable).

14. Select appropriate vein and collect sample as per recommended technique

15. Maintain sample integrity during the transportation (Pack and transport specimens under appropriate conditions)

16. Maintain chain of custody and proper documentation

1. Report adverse events, needle stick injuries, or spillage incidents immediately.
2. Monitor patient for any adverse reactions (dizziness, hematoma, fainting) and manage appropriately.
3. Ensure samples are delivered to the laboratory within stipulated turnaround time.
4. Handle biohazard material and sharps according to biomedical waste disposal regulations.

21. Monitor and provide a monthly order error rate report or Pre-analytical indicators.

22. Maintains awareness of and ensures compliance with various regulatory guidelines i.e., ISO:15189, NABL etc.

23. Ensures pending logs and performed in a timely manner.

24. Monitors and ensures adherence to quality control measures.

1. Always maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information

26. Manage all the Home Collections.

27. If there is any issue in the OPD Area or Home collection, inform to the Lab Manager/Lab Director for the issue.
