Junior Architect

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented professional to handle a hybrid role combining technical estimation and drafting. In this 100% remote position, you will be responsible for reviewing project specifications to create Bill of Quantities (BOQ), preparing accurate client quotations, and executing precise 2D/3D drafting work based on project needs. The ideal candidate is someone comfortable crunching numbers in Excel just as much as they are drawing lines in AutoCAD.

Key Responsibilities

1. Estimation & Quotation (BOQ):

• Review incoming architectural/engineering drawings, tender documents, and scopes of work to fully understand project requirements.
• Perform detailed quantity take-offs directly from digital drawings.
• Prepare comprehensive Bill of Quantities (BOQ), itemizing materials, labor, and associated costs.
• Liaise with suppliers to obtain current pricing for specialized materials or subcontracted work.
• Assemble final, professional quotations for submission to clients, ensuring healthy profit margins while remaining competitive.
• Maintain a database of standard costs and rates for rapid estimation.

2. Drafting & Technical Drawing:

• Create, revise, and finalize 2D drawings (plans, elevations, sections, and details) using AutoCAD based on rough sketches, markups, or specifications.
• [Optional- Basic 3D modeling using SketchUp/Revit for client visualization].
• Ensure all drawings adhere to company drafting standards, layers, and title blocks.
• Convert PDF files to editable CAD formats when necessary.

3. Remote Project Coordination:

• Manage digital file structures, ensuring all versions of drawings and quotes are properly indexed in the company cloud storage (e.g., Dropbox, Google Drive).
• Communicate proactively via email, Slack/Teams, and video calls regarding project status, RFI (Requests for Information), and deadlines.
• Meet strict deadlines autonomously without daily micromanagement.

Required Qualifications & SkillsMust-Haves:

• Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in estimation/quantity surveying AND drafting
• Drafting Software: High proficiency in AutoCAD 2D is non-negotiable.
• Estimation Tools: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, complex formulas) for BOQ creation.
• Blueprint Reading: Expert ability to read and interpret complex architectural and engineering drawings.
• Attention to Detail: An absolute commitment to numerical accuracy—a small error in a BOQ can be costly.
• Communication: Excellent written English for drafting professional quotations and emails.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience with BIM software (Revit) or 3D modeling (SketchUp).
• Familiarity with specific estimation software (e.g., Bluebeam Revu for take-offs).
• A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management.
