Business Head-Consumer Durables

ROLE SUMMARY (PURPOSE)

The Business Head of Consumer Durables (CD) will be responsible for building, scaling and leading a differentiated consumer finance business focused on converting declined consumer durable loan customers into secured gold-backed consumer loans. This role will create a strong alternate lending proposition for customers with weak or impaired credit profiles by leveraging gold as collateral, thereby enabling competitive pricing, superior approval rates, and controlled credit risk.

 

As a business head, the incumbent will own the complete P&L of the Consumer Durables Loan channel, including strategy, distribution, product design, partnerships, credit outcomes, and customer experience. The role will oversee nationwide empanelment of retail consumer durable outlets, integration with point-of-sale ecosystems, and seamless coordination with gold loan operations (branch business) to deliver a fast, compliant and customer-friendly journey.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Strategy and P&L Ownership

  • Define and execute the overall strategy for the Consumer Durables Loan business as a distinct SBU within the organization
  • Own revenue growth, profitability, portfolio quality, and cost efficiency for the CD channel
  • Develop short-term and long-term business plans aligned with enterprise distribution and growth priorities
  • Establish clear success metrics including disbursals, activation rates, conversion from declined customers, yield, and delinquency performance

Product Design and Proposition Development

  • Design and continuously refine a secured consumer loan proposition using gold as collateral
  • Ensure competitive pricing, simple structures, transparent charges, and strong customer value proposition
  • Work closely with Product, Credit and Risk teams to align loan eligibility, LTV norms, tenure, and pricing logic
  • Drive innovation in product bundling, repayment options, and cross-sell opportunities

Retail Outlet Empanelment and Distribution Expansion

  • Lead nationwide empanelment of consumer durable retail outlets, electronics chains, and local retailers
  • Build scalable onboarding, training, and performance management frameworks for empaneled outlets
  • Establish partner economics, incentive structures, and service-level expectations
  • Ensure deep penetration across Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets

Customer Acquisition and Experience

  • Create a frictionless point-of-sale customer journey for customers declined by traditional consumer finance lenders
  • Ensure fast credit decisioning, seamless gold collateralization, and quick disbursement
  • Collaborate with Operations and Technology teams to digitize onboarding and reduce turnaround time
  • Drive high customer satisfaction, repeat usage, and referral-led growth

Credit, Risk and Portfolio Quality

  • Partner with Credit and Risk teams to manage portfolio health while scaling volumes
  • Ensure strong controls on gold valuation, custody, and liquidation processes
  • Monitor delinquency trends, early warning indicators, and corrective actions
  • Maintain balance between growth ambition and prudent risk management

Team Building and Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performing team across sales, partnerships, operations, and analytics
  • Establish clear performance goals, accountability frameworks, and capability-building initiatives
  • Foster a strong culture of ownership, customer focus, and execution excellence

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • 12 to 20 years of experience in consumer finance, retail lending, or secured lending businesses
  • Prior experience in building or scaling consumer durable loans, POS finance, or alternate lending models
  • Proven track record of P&L ownership and channel-led growth
  • Exposure to working with retail partnerships and multi-city distribution networks
  • Experience in gold loan, secured lending, or high-risk customer segments will be a strong advantage
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in commerce, Economics, Engineering, or equivalent. MBA or Postgraduate degree in Management, Finance, Banking, or related discipline from a reputed institution, would be preferred for this role
