Cost Estimator
We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Cost Estimator to join our Product Development team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in driving cost efficiency across various automotive commodities, supporting new program target setting, and identifying opportunities for cost reduction. This position requires a strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes, financial analysis, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Perform detailed cost estimations for Underbody systems commodities, including but not limited to Brakes, Alloy wheels, Shock Absorbers, Axles, Drive shafts, EPAS, Transmissions, Transfer cases, and all associated parts and application parts.
- Conduct competitive and benchmarking analyses of commodities to identify cost reduction opportunities and provide actionable recommendations.
- Lead Cost Gap Analysis and provide robust support to the Purchase function during supplier negotiations.
- Support new program target setting and estimation through forward model costing and cross-functional coordination.
- Execute financial analysis (e.g., Payback, Business Case) for proposed localization and cost reduction initiatives, recommending their financial viability.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering and Purchase teams to identify and implement additional cost reduction actions.
- Monitor and analyze cost and investment changes impacting various Engineering Change (EC) proposals for both new and running programs.
- Education: Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Mechanical, Production, Automobile, or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience:
- 2 to 10 years of overall experience in cost estimation within the automotive industry.
- Minimum 1 year of Product Development (PD) experience, with a strong preference for experience in Electric Vehicle (EV) commodities.
- Hands-on experience in manufacturing, costing, and/or purchasing within an Automobile OEM or Automotive Ancillaries is essential.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Proven knowledge of commodity estimation, particularly for underbody systems.
- Exposure to commodities such as E-Drive and Air Suspensions is an advantage.
- Familiarity with ED&T (Engineering Design & Testing), CAPEX (Capital Expenditure), Should Cost modeling, and tooling manufacturing costing is preferred.
- Understanding business concepts and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Proactive attitude and strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Self-driven individual with a "go-getter" attitude, requiring minimum supervision.
