Head Chef Job Description

Job Title:Head Chef / Executive Chef

Job Summary:

The Head Chef is responsible for overseeing the entire kitchen operation, including menu creation, food preparation, staff management, and maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and presentation. They lead the culinary team and ensure efficient kitchen performance.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, design, and update menus based on seasonal ingredients and customer preferences
  • Oversee food preparation and ensure consistency in taste, quality, and presentation
  • Manage and train kitchen staff, including sous chefs, line cooks, and kitchen assistants
  • Maintain kitchen hygiene and ensure compliance with food safety regulations
  • Control food costs, minimize waste, and manage inventory efficiently
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manage purchasing of ingredients
  • Monitor kitchen operations to ensure timely food service
  • Handle customer feedback related to food quality
  • Ensure proper equipment maintenance and kitchen safety standards

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Chef role

  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of cooking techniques and cuisines
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Creativity in menu planning and presentation
  • Good organizational and time-management skills 

Education & Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in Culinary Arts or Hospitality Management (preferred)
  • Several years of experience in professional kitchens

Prior supervisory or leadership experience

Working Conditions:

  • Long and flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environment
  • Standing for extended periods
