Product Applications Engineer

Trimble Job Title:   Product Applications Engineer – Emerging Markets Solutions; Civil Construction Field Systems

Job Summary

The product applications engineer is responsible for and/or assisting with the design, plan, and implementation of solutions to customer-driven problems. 

Provide hands-on pre and post-sales technical support and troubleshooting and expert advice on the installation, configuration, implementation, and if necessary customer on-site testing of current Civil Field Construction products and technologies. 

Conduct in-depth product presentations and demonstrations for highly technical audiences and participate in technical discussions regarding the use of products. 

Work closely with product engineering teams with bench and field verification and validation testing of CCFS products and solutions.

Participate in and/or be responsible for conducting "Proof of Concept", “Prototyping”, "Pilots", "Evaluations", and “Beta Testing” types of activities that involve developing product performance criteria, analysis and validation; installation, customization/adaptation, testing , and troubleshooting of current and future products as well as performance testing and validation of products from Trimble competitors.  

Along with local Trimble CCFS dealer resource, assist in the support of key customers in the deployment, commissioning, and use of Trimble CCFS technology on National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) highway/expressway construction projects.

Contribute technical information and guidance to business area near and long-term product roadmaps and development plans, as well as technical coordination with internal development sites within the company.

The Product Applications Engineer reports to the Emerging Market Solutions group Director.

Domestic and international travel required, approximately 40%

Primary Duties

·        Identifies special or unique process / testing procedures needed for current and future products

·        Remains abreast of current developments and innovations in computer hardware and software technologies, positioning, scanning, imaging/vision, object recognition, controls, and communications within and outside the company

·        Remains abreast of and validates components, technologies, and products from competitors or other market segments and spaces

·        Contributes to technical training of Product Managers, Technical Support on implemented product changes, updates or technical capabilities

·        Assists with engineering life cycles of integrated hardware and software products including architecture, design revisions, and implementation, liaising with development and engineering groups as necessary

·        Assembles, evaluates and analyzes new components. Documents findings and results with organized technical records which can be easily referred to by others within the organization and incorporated into engineering / production related documentation

·        Self-monitors project performance against specific goals

·        Generates technical documentation and reports suitable for distributor and customer presentation on subjects related to product specifications, performance analysis, bench marking studies and results, diagnostics results and computer design related issues

·        Responsible for assisting in deployment, management, and use of Trimble technology solutions select highway and expressway “pilot projects” with Trimble key account customers

·        Responsible for assisting in deployment, management, and use of Trimble technology solutions on NHAI highway and expressway construction projects with end customers

·        Performs detailed technical diagnostics / trouble shooting and in-depth/in-field technical support, working with local dealers

·        Develops and utilizes product validation plans and hardware for product and component evaluations and assists with organizing and collecting detailed performance information during alpha and beta testing campaigns

·        Works Product Managers, Technical Support, and Quality in identifying prescribing a solution for non-conformances and recommending changes and fixes to products and components

·        As required, builds evaluation systems in support of Engineering, Product Management and Sales Engineering for new products built to customer/internal specifications

Position Requirements:

Education requirements:  Ideal candidate has at a minimum a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, preferably in a related field such as land surveying/geomatics engineering, or civil engineering, construction, computer science/systems integration, or related technical field.

Experience requirements (years):  10+ years of direct industry experience required

·        5-7 years minimum in a land surveying, mining or construction systems integration, and closely involved with the use of advanced positioning and guidance technology and software to improve the efficiency of construction projects and workflows preferred.

·        Must be capable of building productive relationships in a team-based environment. Many of the resources needed for success will not be in the direct control of the product applications engineer, and the product applications engineer must be able to leverage those resources through sound organizational skills.

·        Must demonstrate the ability to understand the audience and modify the message for the audience, for example senior management, contractors, internal engineering groups, distributors, sales engineers.

·        Must understand the product application in detail.

·        Must be able to accept a high level of personal responsibility for product success in an environment of ambiguity and shared resources

·        Must have unrelenting attention to detail

·        Must be able to handle multiple tasks in parallel, take ownership and drive projects to conclusion or resolution without daily detailed management.

·        Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.

·        Must demonstrate the ability to understand the audience and modify the message for the audience.

·        Must demonstrate a high level of energy and self-motivation.

·        Must demonstrate the willingness to be a change agent and challenge conventional wisdom.

·        Must be willing to travel,  both domestic and international, if required

·        Candidate should be comfortable working in an office environment and in outdoor environments such as on construction sites, paving projects, landfills and mining operations and similar in-field environments. Product Applications Engineer - EMS Group
