Job description:
• Mechanical Lead Engineer with a minimum of 10+ years of work experience, capable of independently leading design, development, and engineering support activities. Responsible for developing new designs from concept to industrialization and adapting existing designs to meet new functional, performance, or regulatory requirements.
• Proven experience in End-of-Line Automation Equipment and/or Discrete Product Machinery is mandatory.
• Hands-on leadership experience across 2+ full lifecycle engineering projects, covering: Project scoping, DOU / Specification preparation, Concept ideation, Detailed design, Design validation through calculations, Design reviews, Risk analysis (FMEA), FEA, DFX, Drawing release, and manufacturing support.
Technical skills:
• Engineering: Strong foundation in Engineering Mechanics (Statics & Dynamics), Strength of Materials, Design from first principles, Design validation through engineering calculations, FEA, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), Tolerance stack-up analysis, Hydraulics, and Pneumatics
• Materials: In-depth knowledge of engineering materials and material selection for performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability. Understanding of conventional and non-conventional manufacturing processes with associated tolerances
• Parts Selection: Extensive experience in selection and validation of OEM components (bearings, gearboxes, sprockets, belts, chains, actuators, fasteners, etc.)
• Industry-Specific Experience: Discrete Machines / SPM / Machine Tools / Industrial Automation including Material Handling systems, Secondary Packaging machinery, End-of-Line Automation equipment, Conveyor systems, Bulk Material Handling, and Industrial Products
• CAD: Ability to create complex 3D models and production-ready 2D drawings with GD&T. Strong adherence to ISO / DIN / ANSI standards. Exposure to Model-Based Definition (MBD) is an added advantage
• CAD Tools: Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (all modules). Experience with multiple CAD platforms is a strong advantage
• Exposure to machine building, installation, commissioning, and field issue resolution is a significant advantage
Mandatory Skills:
• Strong experience in product / machine design and development following industry best practices
• Expertise in engineering calculations, tolerance stack-up analysis, and GD&T
• Hands-on application of engineering tools and methodologies such as VAVE, FMEA, FEA, DFX
• Material and OEM part selection with cost, quality, and lifecycle considerations
• Good understanding of Electrical and Controls interfaces in machines and automation systems
• 3D CAD expertise – SolidWorks (Must) / NX with Teamcenter (Added Advantage)
• Project leadership and people management capabilities (Added Advantage)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to think creatively and propose innovative solutions
Soft Skills:
• Strong communication, coordination, and decision-making skills
• High attention to detail, collaborative mindset, and strong team-building and mentoring capability
• Effective time management with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Strong presentation skills and experience handling projects
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience, including 5+ years of hands-on design and development
• Experience working with OEMs is preferred, with exposure to machine installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of field issues
Key Result Areas:
• Prepare Document of Understanding and effort estimation from high-level requirements, including effort estimation, schedules, and risk assessment
• Lead technical discussions with product managers and stakeholders to clarify scope, requirements, and design intent
• Study and understand existing machine designs, identify gaps, and drive required enhancements or re-engineering
• Ensure delivery of error-free manufacturing drawings with correct GD&T, adhering to ISO / DIN / ANSI standards
