Software Asset Management Analyst

Job Description

As a Software Asset Management Analyst in the Enterprise IT group, you will work closely with all technology, procurement, operations, security & legal teams to help maintain the day-to-day records responsible for containing information pertaining to the organization’s software assets. You will be part of a team responsible for software compliance, software lifecycle management, managing internal customer request queues, and execute SAM related projects. Our mission is to maximize the value of IT software assets by managing processes, controlling costs and driving compliance to mitigate risk. 

Key Responsibilities 

Software Lifecycle & Operational Support 

  • Provide end‑user support for software requests, installations, renewals, removals, and purchase-related inquiries 

  • Understand software license agreements and terms and conditions to identify rules, obligations, and product metrics to ensure compliance with all software license agreements and software usage 

  • Manage contracts, entitlements and assignments of existing or new purchases within Flexera 

  • Answer software license related questions pertaining to number of installs, purchases and provide licensing knowledge and advisory services to stakeholders to maximize the value of Software Asset Management 

Compliance & Risk Management 

  • Work with the packaging teams to ensure deployment methods and media are correctly operating in line with license restrictions (server and workstation) 

  • Proactively identify compliance risks, discrepancies, or unauthorized software usage 

  • Assist in Software audit activities, working closely with the technology, procurement, cyber security & legal teams 

  • Maintain and update the SAM risk tracker, documenting key risks, status, and mitigation actions 

Optimization & Vendor Management 

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and work with the Software Asset Manager on renewals, true-ups, optimization, and negotiations 

  • Monitor software renewal requirements, coordinating with software owners on operational requirements 

  • Contribute to software process improvements and automation 

     

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 to 5+ years of experience in a Software Asset Management role 

  • Experience with SAM tools, such as: Flexera, ServiceNow, USU(Aspera) or Snow License Manager 

  • Ability to interpret and calculate vendor licensing contracts and models; familiarity with SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, and other Tier‑1 vendor license metrics. 

  • Hands on experience with reconciling software licensing and software maintenance terms & conditions between procured rights and quantities with compliant deployment of software assets 

  • Must be able to independently interpret, analyze, & summarize contracts, and evaluate pricing & licensing proposals 

  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to detail 

  • Working knowledge of current IT technologies and full understanding of industry practices 

  • Hands‑on experience with the end‑to‑end IT software procurement lifecycle and related best practices 

  • Strong problem-solving with excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal contacts and vendors 

  • Strong data analysis, manipulation and Excel skills, with the ability to work with complex data sets 

  • Self‑motivated, detail-oriented and able to work independently 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • CSAM or similar certification 

  • Proven experience in software cost savings or optimization initiatives 

  • Automation / scripting experience to reduce any manual or repeated tasks 

  • Familiarity with Endpoint Management and inventory tools (Tanium, Intune, etc.) 

  • Experience with building SQL queries is a plus 

  • Experience with building data models and BI Reports in PowerBI is a plus
