Job Description
Stamping Feasibility Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Stamping Feasibility Engineer to join our Manufacturing team at Ford Business Solutions (FBS) in Chennai, India. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in automotive sheet metal stamping processes and a strong proficiency in advanced simulation and CAD software. This role is critical in ensuring the manufacturability and quality of automotive body and structural components from the early design stages through production. The Stamping Feasibility Engineer will be responsible for analyzing part designs, identifying potential stamping issues, and collaborating with design and tooling teams to develop robust and cost-effective solutions for Ford's global product portfolio.
- Perform comprehensive stamping feasibility analyses on new and modified automotive sheet metal components, identifying potential issues such as splits, wrinkles, springback, and material thinning.
- Utilize advanced simulation software, specifically AutoForm and LS-DYNA, to predict and analyze sheet metal forming behavior and optimize stamping processes.
- Work extensively with CAD software, including NX CAD and CATIA, to review part designs, generate geometry for simulation, and propose design modifications.
- Collaborate closely with product design, styling, and tooling engineering teams across Ford's global organization to provide early feedback on design manufacturability and recommend design changes that improve stamping robustness and reduce costs.
- Develop and implement corrective actions for identified stamping issues, working with suppliers and internal teams to ensure successful component production.
- Conduct material formability studies and recommend appropriate material grades and thicknesses based on design requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
- Generate detailed technical reports and presentations summarizing feasibility findings, simulation results, and recommended actions for various stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in sheet metal forming technologies, materials, and simulation tools.
- Participate in design reviews and provide expert input on stamping-related concerns.
- Bachelor's (BE) or Master's (ME) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Minimum of 4 years of direct experience in sheet metal stamping feasibility analysis within the automotive industry.
- Proven expertise in using AutoForm for stamping simulation and process optimization.
- Demonstrable experience with LS-DYNA for advanced forming analysis, crashworthiness, or related simulations.
- High proficiency in NX CAD and CATIA for 3D model manipulation, design review, and geometry preparation.
- Strong understanding of sheet metal material properties, forming processes (drawing, flanging, trimming, restriking), and tooling concepts.
- Sound knowledge in Solid Mechanics of Automotive steel and Aluminum material.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and specifications.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with other CAE tools for structural analysis or optimization.
- Knowledge of stamping die design and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with various automotive manufacturing standards and quality systems.
