Scope:

The Snowflake L1 Operations Engineer provides first-level operational support for the Snowflake data platform. The role focuses on monitoring, incident triage, alert handling, and SOP-driven service request fulfilment, ensuring the stability, availability, and performance of Snowflake workloads.
The engineer acts as the first point of contact for operational alerts, incidents, and Snowflake onboarding/service requests, executing predefined operational procedures and escalating complex issues to L2/L3 teams when required.

What you’ll do: 

Platform Administration

• Provision and manage Snowflake accounts, databases, warehouses, roles, and users using RBAC best practices.
• Implement Object Tagging, Row/Column-Level Security, and Dynamic Data Masking for sensitive data.
• Set up and manage Resource Monitors, Warehouse sizing, Multi-cluster warehouses, and Auto-suspend/Auto-resume.

Performance & Reliability

• Monitor and tune query performance (query profiles, pruning, clustering, caching, statistics, materialized views).
• Design and maintain Clustering Keys, Search Optimization, and Result Caching strategies.
• Troubleshoot query slowness, lock/contention patterns, and warehouse bottlenecks.

Data Operations & Pipelines

• Administer Snowpipe, Tasks, Streams, Stages, and File Formats (S3/ADLS/GCS).
• Oversee Time Travel, Fail-safe windows, and retention policies.
• Support batch and streaming ingestion patterns; collaborate on ELT with dbt/SQL.

Security, Governance & Compliance

• Enforce RBAC, Network Policies, OAuth/SCIM/SSO (Okta/AAD), Key/External Tokenization, Encryption at rest/in transit.
• Implement Data Classification & Tag-based masking; integrate with data catalogs (e.g., Purview, Collibra, Alation).
• Audit and report using Account Usage and Information Schema; ensure compliance with internal and external controls.

FinOps & Observability

• Own cost visibility and optimization (warehouse right‑sizing, query optimization, object lifecycle).
• Build usage dashboards/alerts; drive budget adherence and forecast consumption.
• Establish and maintain monitoring & alerting (Snowflake views, native alerts, or external tools—Datadog, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus/Grafana).

Automation & SDLC

• Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Snowflake Provider), CI/CD (GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps/GitLab).
• Standardize environment promotion (Dev/Test/Prod), secrets management, and repeatable runbooks/playbooks.
• Maintain documentation, runbooks, and contribute to platform engineering standards.

What we are looking for: 

• 5–8 years total experience with 3+ years dedicated to Snowflake administration.
• Immediate Joiners Preferred.
• Strong SQL expertise; deep knowledge of warehouses, databases, schemas, roles, grants, and RBAC.
• Hands‑on with performance tuning: query profile analysis, clustering/search optimization, materialized views.
• Experience with Snowpipe, Streams/Tasks, External Stages, and cloud object storage (S3/ADLS/GCS).
• Proven security & governance implementation: Network Policies, SSO (SAML/OAuth), masking, row/column security.
• Cost governance/FinOps for Snowflake with demonstrable savings or optimization initiatives.
• Automation experience with Terraform (Snowflake provider) and CI/CD for database objects and roles.
• Comfortable with at least one cloud: AWS, Azure, or GCP (IAM, networking basics, KMS/Key Vault/Cloud KMS).
• Scripting in Python or bash; familiarity with REST APIs or Snowflake Python Connector.
